Today I'm treating myself to a day at the races. Fakenham NH races, to be precise: that tiny rural racecourse in north Norfolk which lies about twenty miles away. It's one of those courses, compact and tight, that suits the specialist and winners are hard to come by. I can almost see a wry smile on your face as you think: "With you, winners are always hard to come by". Guilty as charged, m'Lud.

Anyway, Fakenham it is and I have already picked my losers for the day. I'll have a short-price yankee:

L'Impertinent 2.15
Seeyouinmydreams 2.45
Jolyjump 3.45
Trevada 4.55

I'll include two more at the course and add another at Ffos Las:

Go Fox 3.15 8/1 Ew
Shroccosmagicbaby 4.00 FFos Las 7/1Ew
Tricomalee 4.20 9/2 Ew

3 x Singles
Ew Trixie

That's all for Tuesday's blog. Time to get ready for my day out.🐴

Back from the races and a pukka day it's been, too.

You know how many times we've heard of punters going racing with their wife . She picks a horse for it's name - one of her family members, for instance. You've had your head in the form for hours but her horse wins? In the first I succumbed to such a bet. I have a cat, a ragdoll cat, who's a handsome beast and doesn't he know it? Sits there like the bloody king of fashion, or something. I've taken to calling him 'Leroy', a good old Jamaican name meaning 'The King'. His real name is Otis (after Otis Redding). When I saw a horse in the first called King Otis, what could I do?
Won 3/1 Lol

Over the six races I got two really short-priced winners and my biggest fancy of the day was Tricomalee,. I backed him before I left for my day out, at 9/2. Won easily at 3/1. Well sweet.

All in all a terrific day out in beautiful surroundings (May has to be my favourite month of the year) and a lovely crowd; lots of good chats through the day, friendly as you like.

The greatest pleasure, though, was the recovery of Stop The Train, a faller at the last in the third race. How horrible it was to see the screens being put up. The next race was delayed as we alll pondered the awfulness of the sight. After about half an hour, though, the screens were removed and the horse was on his feet to the biggest, heartfelt, cheer of the day. Wonderful: he was alive, if groggy and stiff as a board, as he was led away. Thank the Lord.
To cap it all, my only bet at another course, Shiroccosmagicbaby, absolutely romped home at 7/2.I'd backed it earlier at 7/1.

What a good day I had

Great to hear you had a fantastic day out, Yorick. Fakenham on a pleasant day sounds like fun, winners or not. Nearly 3 hours from me, maybe next May I'll see you there :)
