Betting when abroad

I usually spend 4 to 6 weeks outside the UK each year and like to continue placing a few bets on the horses. However, due to, presumably licensing restrictions, the UK betting websites will not allow me to place bets. I have tried using VPNs setting UK as my location but it is very hit and miss whether that works. In particular, Bet365, my preferred betting website, seems to detect VPN usage and always blocks access. I would appreciate any tips on how to get around this situation.

What VPNs have you tried?

I was in France the last couple of weeks and my Bitdefender VPN worked well. Didn't try 365 (the bstardos shut me down, must have been mistaken identity!!) but Betfair, Skybet, WH were all OK
