He was a real love him or hate him character in the eighties. I have to confess to having all Soft Cell's early stuff on 12".

I quite liked Soft Cell, but I'm struggling to care any more about Marc Almond's well-being than I would care about anyone else's who I've never met.

I loo kat pampered Pop stars in the same way I view 3 mile chasers. They have a great life, have everything looked after for them, best of healthcare etc, but if they tumble and take a bad one I don't have any crocodile tears left.

And at least, unlike the three mile chasers, Marc Almond has his nuts...

    Didn't Marc Almond love horses?
I went swimming in the Caribbean. Animals were hiding behind rocks

Why are you speaking of him in the past tense?

    Brian,

It is not for nothing that I have, during my working life, managed to avoid getting myself into a position where I was on the wrong end of a bollocking from a man with ''something of the night'' about him, and despatched to a city to apologise to its citizens.

    No public schoolboy buffoon, I.

My no doubt iconic status withinin the Gay community surely remains intact.

I was referring to the pint drinking as being in the past. Although it wouldn't be as great a loss as John Peel if he did become past tense.

Drawing comparisons is unconstructive .They are from different worlds , but I can't argue that John Peel's loss will be felt by more people.
One thing about Marc Almond , do you hear many stories about hetrosexuals sexual mishaps ? because it always seemed strange to me that the press felt it necessary to publish a story about his supposed adventures . Its salacious to have a story about a gay person because it's still seen as being something shocking and that sells papers . The gay comunnity are a minority which the majority of the public don't identify with so the readership will accept the tabloid editors view because they would rather not be involved in forming their own view so distasteful is the subject . You don't buy a newspaper if you buy a tabloid . It's a lifestyle magazine . They never had evidence but 10 yrs later there is still an in joke about Marc Almond that is really offensive to me and I'm sure others . I'm straight but that shouldn't even be relevant in a civilised society . That sort of gossip and innuendo should be shunned by any sentient individual
