Interesting stat is that since the start of the century 59 runners ran in prev year's plate and not single one won. However 12 managed to place (20%)

I've done a couple of back-up bets.
I have Summer's Knight as a +p type likely to improve enough to be competitive but I now see that he did have an Ascot Gold Cup entry so he's probably regarded as something better than a 96 yoke.
I presume they didn't see the entry through to participation because he's not at a high enough level to be placed and they might not have wanted to leave this race back there.
20/1 is more than fair but I have no idea if the plan is to run.
The other one I've backed is Spirit Mixer at 11/1. I was holding back with this one in the hope it might drift to qualify for the longshot thread but it's gone blue this morning so I thought I'd better get on just in case. It's also a +p in my notes and posted a career best last time despite little going right for it at Chester in a race that must have been a steep learning curve for his good claimer, shall we say...

Interesting rider up on Island B...and a surprise for sure...Benoit De La Sayette. Unless I'm missing it, never ridden for Heather Main before.
But your Summer's Knight looks strong, Desert :-) If he's ridden last to first, and is as good as they probably think he is, I'm not sure I can see the Chauvelin coping, for sure. Nor Island B.
PS Luke Morris has been declared to ride...and he will know what's under the bonnet....I think that signifies they intend to run

My fancy Soapy Stevens not declared by the looks of it. I didn't see that coming.
Wise Eagles out, too. And I was getting so excited about him running in it.

I'm thinking of sticking with Mark Johnston but with his other runner Tribal Art. Certainly out ran odds of 40/1 when seventh in the Ascot stakes recently. Maybe he has hit a bit of good form at just the right time. A good record on all weather surfaces to boot!

Eagle’s just been on the local BBC News!
Trueshan fav on the machine. He's a 20/1 shot surely? I'm laying.

Bloody hell ( am I allowed to say that!). But it’s what I’ve been saying for the past few minutes. I’m still in shock…..wow…..
Take a bow, Hollie and Trueshan and to Alan King for having the balls to run him.

What an incredible performance. I didnt think that was possible.i think that's the first time I've cheered for a horse I hadnt backed.
Fair Doos Trueshan.
All comers, all grounds, all beaten!
This perfect mix of poetry and destruction.
Wasn't even out of breath, some horse, well done all at Barbury Castle. How much lead would Holly have had under her?
From a handicapping perspective, that goes down as one of the all-time great performances.
The implication is that the Ascot field wouldn't have got a sniff of his erse.
I need to watch it again. I'm still in shock.

I've been a racing fan for 40years and I can't think of anything that comes close to that as a handicapping performance on the flat.
My take on it is that he is a big strong horse with the ability to concede significant amounts of weight to inferior opposition.Maybe he should have a go at the million euro Irish Caesarewitch.
All time great performances? Yeah that's why he went off at 3/1 fav and the pros got stuck right in.
He was backed off the boards because he was racing against trees, that, if they ran in a Gold Cup would be beaten by over a furlong.
If at their best Kyprios or Strad would have won the race maybe even easier.
What you guys fail to understand is it a lot easier giving slow horses tons of weight than beating good horses in your own class.
You could have given most of those horses a stone less yesterday and they still would not have gone any faster
