Anyone know if Frontal Assault is being aimed at one of the handicaps? He got a nightmare run last year behind GDC.

Had a nibble at Mister Coffey for the power plate. Plenty of potential if he can put it altogether. Bit more experience needed so hoping for one more run before being aimed at this.

I can see the angle, but I couldn’t back Mister Coffey with Monopoly money now. Ive filed the horse alongside Singlfarmpayment etc.

Hoping Palmers Hill rocks up for the plate.

What would worry me is the fact that Sirah Du Lac is not found in either the RP or ATR database of horses.

Maybe because it's called Siruh Du Lac.

FWIW, I reckon that fall scunnered the poor horse but I'd love it they could get him back as he is/was a really admirable type at his best.

I've just watched a replay of its run in December and he jumped really well and only wknd from 2 out.
It will be interesting to see if he runs again before Cheltenham but Pipe has sent them for the plate without a run before.

Worth keeping an eye on the Pertemps Qualifiers now. No more Irish Pertempts qualifiers, so any Irish horse will need to come over to qualify. (If not already qualified)

Suspect any qualifying will be massively over bet as well.

GE has nine entered in the qualifier at Warwick on Saturday, three of which are already qualified.

Of the ones qualified - Dunboyne, Falcano and Tullybeg. Chemical Energy is one entry worth noting, fishing a mark for the Martin Pipe one reckons.

Are there any sites anywhere dedicated (or containing pages dedicated) to the qualifiers?

I don't keep too close a track of the qualifiers in Britain, let alone Ireland, but like to know what has qualified so far. A lot of the qualifiers are straight races since a lot of the runners need to go up the weights to have any chance of making the cut.

It's the ones already likely to make the cut but preserving a mark (or who can afford to run fifth or sixth while getting their mark down a pound or two) that interest me the most.

Am I reading that correctly - only two qualifiers in Ireland? A maximum of 12 Irish runners (plus any that come over here to qualify) to look at, and some of them won't make the cut?

I note last season the lowest rating was 126. That's very low. I presume that's down to fewer Irish runners generally in the handicaps. I imagine they'll need to be higher than 130 to make the cut this season which makes the job of finding the winner that much easier: all you need is a future G1 winner sitting on a bandit of a mark...

I probably ask this question every year, but anyways, what date do the handicap entries come out?

I plan to look at the form of each runner when the entries come out to identify my shortlist. The last few years I have been a bit lazy and only scanned the fields picking out two or three to look at closely and then picking one of those.

I will be putting a bit more time into it this year, although I havn't decided whether to conduct my examination before the final decs or after the final decs. It'll probably depends on how healthy my betting bank is the next two months!

I could still come out winnerless but at least I know I studied properly. Being lucky is another aspect of all this that sometimes is under appreciated. Surely finding the winner of 20+ runner handicap is not always a precise science..?
