    Aintree 2021

Leaving aside the GN which has its own thread, plenty of other good races to mull over, these are the entries for the Foxhunters and the Topham, the other two races over the national fences.

Even if it was bucketing down they'd still be watering...

They won't...They will aim for good to soft because historically they know that the worse the ground, the less that finish.

Tiger Roll's 2018 race was heavy and only 12 finished, 6 horses fell, 5 unseated and as a result of that, the following year they decided to aim for, if possible, Good/soft ground and they were delighted with the result, 19 finishers, 4 fallers and 2 unseated.

Edit: What would be the point of cutting the race by 2 furlongs, to then intentionally produce heavy ground and have the race become attritional....

The reason the race distance was cut had nothing to do with the 'attritional' nature of it. It was to move the start away from the excitement of the noise produced in the stands and to reduce the run to the first fence in order to slow up the early pace and reduce early fallers.

They will not allow the meeting to start on anything better than good to soft. They will aim for the good-to-soft side of soft but will be happy with soft. They will argue that soft equals safe.

I know that, My point is, they will not water excessively because that will make it more attritional!

You made a comment, Quote: "even if it was bucketing down they'd still be watering..."

Then you say, "They will aim for the good-to-soft side of soft but will be happy with soft. They will argue that soft equals safe."

But in actual fact, they have already concluded that soft would equate to, more stamina-sapping conditions and that wherever possible, they will aim for Good to soft, and with the weather conditions that we have at the moment, that target should be a lot easier to achieve than if it were, as you say; "bucketing down"!

    An intrigingly precise question.

And that small head knew that Impaire Et Passe would win the Champion Hurdle."

Who should we be laying Shane?
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

According to someone whose house overlooks the course there was plenty of watering going on yesterday.

I won’t be watching it. Memories of bad things happening on the park course stick with me. I know it’s cowardly of me but the course is so fast and flat it scares me. I really should take up crochet for my leisure time activity.

I know what you mean. Im same when Tiger Roll runs at all. Sat with all fingers and toes crossed. If he was lost on a racecourse the damage would be catastrophic
