Novice Chasers 2020 / 2021
Presume people have heard about a crucial change in the rules that now allow novices who won for the first time over fences or hurdlers after February 1st this year to remain novices until December 1st. Paul Nicholls has hinted that this opens up more options for horses like McFabulous, Grand Sancy, Thyme White and Southfield Harvest.

I hadn't seen this Roger. Thanks for highlighting. There will be others outside of Ditcheat that will have slipped under everyone's radar.
The question is whether the new program really supports these extra non-novices.

Todays 3.05 at Uttoxeter looks a smart little race
Ballyhome did OK to win at Market Rasen but the form looks nothing special and Winter Getaway has a chance at the wights but lacks experience so think it’s between the top 2 in the market
Liked The Butcher Said last year and he's built to be a chaser, but he looked a little bit novicey first time out, unlike Longhouse Sale who looked a natural don’t think either the step up in trip or double penalty will stop him. Think he’ll win and the only downer is the price…

Think both of them could be pretty good and definitely better than summer jumpers. The Butcher Said gets a 9/10 for his jumping, but Longhouse gets full marks!

The Butchers Said goes in the 13.10 at Bangor. He's a shade of odds on but think 3m will suit and expect him to win...

13.00 at Fontwell looks a reasonable little race…
Second season novice Coolanly has some decent form in the book, including a 2nd to Henry VIII winner Esprit Du Large, but think he may be worth taking on as is marginally disappointing in my view
I’m siding with I K Brunel, who’s got a course win, goes well fresh, softer ground’s no problem, just about top rated on hurdles form and supposedly is a “anything he did over hurdles was a bonus” type… What’s not to like!
Post race update: just one more more stride, one....

While the withdrawal of AOB’s Arc runners is unfortunate a more serious
consequence of Feedgate is that Joseph’s A Wave of the Sea has been withdrawn from the Like a Butterfly novice chase at Tipperary where he’d surely have given Galvin something to think about in receipt of a stone.

Down Royal starter same as Samcro
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Smart little 3m chase at Chepstow this afternoon, but am struggling to find a bet
Ask Dillon – strong in the market, yard in form
Enrilo – one of those “always been a chaser in the making…” types
Ofalltheginjoints – bit to find on hurdles ratings, but has a course win and cd be the time to catch him
Red River – PTP background but very disappointing behind Champ on his one goes over fences last year. Given time so maybe worth a chance
The Cashel Man – Best of these over hurdles but flat bred…
Probably just one to watch, but may have a little interest in Enrilo and Red River if the prices drift enough

All the money is for Ask Dillon so far. I’ll be interested in seeing how Red River and The Mighty Don perform - but a watching brief only.

Enrilo just run out of it. Jumped well but didn’t find much from the last (only saw the closing stages)

And the winner was the one I didn’t mention
He did incredibly well to get up as was comfortably out-jumped at most fences & clearly stays well. A likeable performance but can’t believe he’d beat the winner next time if they met under the same conditions
As you say viking, Enrilo jumped great (bar 1) and just got caught after the last. I liked that and think he’ll turn out to be a decent chaser
