After being well beaten in the Derby, was good to see the horse bounce back and run so well today in a G1 finishing 3rd @ 40-1

Gold Trip could be a lively outsider in this strange Arc today

Pinatubo retired to stud - completely sensible decision, imo, as the classy and consistent colt was going nowhere, this season.

End of the flat season and while I’ve always been a bigger fan of winter racing, today’s races made me desperate for Cheltenham on Friday.

Hollie Doyle a notable exception. She is a truly excellent jockey

    Same here, Lee.

What's the best prognosis for the Cheltenham Festival in 2021?

I think the last time I went Sizing Europe won the Gold Cup, must have been 2017 - Paul/Maruco kindly bought me a pint. I'd like to make another visit.

Fair point Frankel but I genuinely tried to enjoy today and just couldn’t. It was like asking top NH horses to run on gd-fm at Chester in mid May to decide the champions.

Martin - I wont add more twig hopping to the flat thread so will reply on appropriate one. When i sober up

By coincidence that's also the last time Paul bought a pint

    Noted from Champion's day:
The gound on the straight course was no worse than the official 'soft'. Battaash apart, the sprinters are much of a muchness, with the 107 rated Brando only just denied.
Magical is no wonder horse, which ought to put an end to this 'best horse in the world' nonsense about Ghaiyyath.
Considering he completely missed the break, and over a trip well short of his best, Serpentine probably rubber-stamped the Derby form in finishing 4th.
    All imo, of course.

Oxted and DoD are quality sprinters but the former didn't stay and DoD has run poorly at this meeting before. Probably time of year.

Magical was too far back. She's high class not top class. Much like Ghaiyyath. The 10/12f division has been average since the year Almanzor won this.

Read that Palace Pier had blood in his mouth at the start. Did well considering that and also his I can't be arsed since Enable lost ride from Dettori. I think PP, Alpine Star and Battaash have been the best horses I've seen this year.

I thought Oxted and DofD possibly ran a little bit keen early on and couldn’t quite sustain it long enough.

Magical just wasn't good enough on the day. She was only about a length behind the first two two out. They ran away from her until she plodded on in to third.

Palace Pier lost a shoe aswell leaving the gate. Not able to change leads either Dettori said.

    Sectionals for Champion's day:
    http://https://www.attheraces.com/bl...ions-day-recap
SR mistakenly calls a draw bias in the Balmoral, but it's clear from the replay it was a pace bias, owed to Raheeq going off like a scalded cat. The first 5 home all raced far side.
Doesn't say a lot for Jim Crowley's judgement of pace, either.
The RP also disagrees with SR's going synopsis, stating that the going stick reading was the lowest in the past 10 years of the event.
Useful as sectionals are, they rarely give the complete picture.

Shorter trip might suit, so each way @ 25-1 [4 places]
