I've been looking at the Nunthorpe tomorrow, Ten Sovereigns is about 13/8 fav at the moment but from an initial look at it's form and prev winner stats there's a fly in the ointment for it in my opinion. I'll double check later on but it appeared that all but two of the last 18 winners had at least placed at 5f, where as Ten Sovereigns has only ever run at 6f. I'm not seeing it as an immediate deal breaker but I would say it's a serious negative.

Firmament (3.00) has a brilliant record in this race and at York as a whole. Ground in his favour, and looks sure to give another good show today.

Odds on Frankies's retirement following Enable's Arc given the emotion in the saddle after her win.

Five furlongs is a specialists distance in my opinion.

    Depends how much you trust Aidan;

He won't quit yet. His ego needs it too much and while Gosden continues to support him, he won't go.
    Vote Alfie!!!!

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but I find it hard to decide whether it was emotion, or pure theatre?.

York would be a lovely jumps track.

And Yorkshire needs a big galloping Grade 1 jumps course. Great idea Archie. What better than turning it over to us jumps guys. Most of the middle distance horses running there will end up over hurdles anyway. Gosden could make a good jumps trainer as well with a bit of time and advice from Nicholls and Henderson I reckon.

Not sure Frankie could cut it though. I suspect Frankel would have faded up the hill in a Champion Hurdle, and Enable would fall agonisingly short in a World Hurdle even with her 7lb allowance.

Yeah, its a strange behaviour to begin towards the end of his career.

Well I've tried to make sense of the Nunthorpe re previous winner stats and nothing has given me any great epiphany.

I still don't like Ten Sovereigns for it but we'll soon see if I'm very wrong about that! But cross referencing the stats with my ratings I get in order of preference :-

    Battaash
    Mabs Cross
    Soldiers Call
    El Astronaute

If I had to pick one it would be Battaash though, but I might do some ew's and/or an exacta & trifecta on the rest.

I'd be taking the each way angle that one of the bigger priced horses have some cross formlines that don't put them too far behind Battaash. Of those I'd side with Garrus at 40/1 as the least exposed and still likely to be on the upgrade. Also he seems to favour good to firm as it'll be today. The other I'd consider is Rumble Inthejungle 80/1 for similar reasons. Also split stakes with 365 offering 16/1 and 28/1 6 places.

Given the drop back to 10f and the market drift, it's reasonable to assume Eynhallow 1.55, was out for no more than a warm-up latest, after 14 months on the missing list. The same logic also dictates today should be the day.
Fanaar 4.50. Despite being held up off a steady pace in a valuable Goodwood h'cap, and having to be switched a number of times as a consequence, stilll ran a blinder to finish 4th. Showed he stayed 1m in the Britannia.

Havent seen him blubbering like that before. There was a time when he was doing the flying dismount for gp3 winners. I like him but wouldnt be surprised if an arc win is the end of it for him.
