    Thoughts from today

1 The starter was utterly useless

2 STD gave Al Dancer a poor ride - too far back then rushed up and fell in a heap

3 That was a bloody awful Arkle

4 Lakeview Lad ran a blinder pre GN

5Had he stood up Buveur d’Air would have hacked up and Apple’s can sulk

6 No more than coincidence Walsh did nothing wrong on Benie

    7. Rachael Blackmore gave A Plus Tard the ride of the day - hell does she know how to present a horse at a fence

8 The NH Chase was grim this race is now so valuable and important it is time to open it to professional riders

9 The plan to move tomorrow’s card to Saturday has a dodgy ulterior motive

10 Minella Rocco should be retired.

    Agree with 1-6-7-9-10.
Disagree about Apples Jade -she is an exceptional mare.

Joseph O' Brien trained horses are running well -very well.Fakir,Tower Bridge and Us and Them all ran on very strongly.

A Plus Tard was phenomenal-could be a monster.

Agreed; just not over 2m, at this level.

    3. It was a moderate renewal beforehand as I mentioned in the novices thread but I had DDG potentially a long way clear on my figures. I think he is in the same class as the likes of Un De Sceaux.

    7. You could have won on APT. I had him potentially (along with a couple of others) massively unexposed (as you know) but they were all at prices that made dutching not worth it. She's as good as anyone out there bar maybe Ruby but I'd argue the horse was brilliant rather than the jockey. It was just a steering job. I don't rate him much but I thought McGrath's ride on BTB was worthy of the 'ride of the day' accolade but credit for it should go to Hendo for telling him what to do. The man's a genius.

It was a very good ride by Jerry McGrath I agree - but what was particularly impressive on the steering job was how she appeared to anticipate any trouble and made sure she was out of it as well as how well she gets horses to jump.

can't read anything into that performance of hers yesterday, she wouldn't have won the mares

You don't think she simply got outpaced then?

the performances and times she's put up this season means that surely something was amiss yesterday. i didn't bet her and don't think 2 miles is her optimum but the performance was too bad to be true.

I just wondered whether she did a bit of a Carvill’s Hill - she was clearly way below form but did she just sulk a bit.

I reckon it was a combination of being way out of her league and sulking when she wasn't having things her own way.

Not many can make the jump from winning against moderate or unfit horses and competing well in a Champion Hurdle......There were two mares with the same type of form and neither could cope

I doubt you will see Apples Jade at Cheltenham again.
