Much rain in the area now lads? Looks like you’re about to get a decent share today anyway.

It’s been bucketing down here in Ireland for the past few days. Early indications are that there’ll be plenty more rain in the forecast up to the start of the festival and that race week could be quiet cold.

    Presume it’s still good ground.

Cheltenham remained good ground on Sunday, with a GoingStick reading of 7.0.

Simon Claisse, clerk of the course, said: "We haven't had a lot of rain this weekend so far but there's plenty of rain forecast to come before next week.
"There are bits and pieces of rain right through to the end of the meeting on Friday week, but that's a long-range forecast and short-term there's plenty forecast.
"There is 3-5mm of rain forecast most days and that would be ideal to give consistent ground and produce a lovely surface.
"If the forecast is right it would be good to soft, and might end with soft in places."
The cross-country course has often ridden a shade quicker than the traditional courses but Claisse added: "When we did some watering the week before last we put more on the cross-country, which is why the ground is good on all courses."

Roger do you know if the course has taken any measurers to guard against the forecast high winds during the festival week. After the debacle 10/11 years ago it would be comforting to know

Haven't heard anything, but can ask Ben (Head Groundsman). Didn't realise we had strong winds forecast that week tbh ?

    Forecast from Fri 8th onwards

A fine day for many on Friday, although there will be some showers in the north and east, these will possibly be wintry on the hills. It will probably cloud over from the west later on Friday, with a spell of wet and windy weather spreading to most parts on Saturday, before clearing to sunshine and showers on Sunday. Staying unsettled into next week with further showers or longer spells of rain and strong winds at times, with gales in places. It will be turning colder, with any showers turning wintry at times, especially in the north. It continues unsettled into the middle of the month, with further spells of wet and windy weather at times, which will be interspersed by brighter, colder and showery interludes.

Metcheck predicting strongest winds on Sunday but predicted amounts of wind and rain change every day. Does Simon still have his private forecasts from John Kettley?

    Any frost forecast?
it would open up the ground more as it is very dry underneath and rain alone will hardly change it too much

Chris Cook suggesting on Twitter he's heard a forecast involving snow next Monday, have asked him to clarify but no reply as yet.

    Today's going on Turftrax

There are some ‘winterly showers’ predicted on some forecasts throughout the week but a bit too early to say for sure where and when.

The forecasts all differ but Metcheck only has 1.5mm rain in the lead up to next Tuesday.

Claisse expecting another 17mm. Certainly looks far from the good ground they’ve been racing on over the winter.

the accuweather forecast gives an inch between today and Tuesday for Prestbury; risk of thundershowers today.
It beats watering whatever the forecast.
