    50 Bobsline

    Plenty of cause for debate
how come Bobsline is so far below Noddy's Ryde ?
the one time they met Bobsline came out on top

    why no Inkslinger ?
Winner of Colonial Cup at 4 and the only dual Festival winner at the same Festival in 1973 when only 6, Inkslinger's other runs behind Pendil at 2m4f and 3 miles proves the Cheltenham wins were no fluke.

All in all I am delighted that God's favourite racing creatures had their month in the sun this january ; the Racing Post can get some things right also.
Featuring the bravest horses racing is one of them.

    they can go FCUK themselves
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

I know it is trivial, but Badsworth Boy and Flying Bolt were both manifestly superior to SS. And DO at #3? Seriously?

The Bobsline/Noddy's Ryde one is inexcusable. Did Desert Orchid beat any of the top 50 over two miles? Can't remember him beating Pearlyman. One Man wasn't a 2m, again did he beat any of the top 50 over 2 miles. How close was Lord Dorcet to making the list.

I'd struggle to get Moscow Flyer into the top 10 myself but it's all about opinions.

Some of the higher-rated horses - 2, 3, 9, 11 and 12 - were not specialist 2-milers (they used 2 miles as a stepping stone), and some were not even QMCC winners.

I would have thought Sizing Europe should be higher than 28 maybe

How the flying **** did Captain Conan make the list ?

Especially with the absence of horses like Sound Man and Champion Chase winner Call Equiname

Captain fcuking Conan who never won a race outside novice company

Does anyone know what criteria was used to produce this list, because large parts of it are complete bollox?

And I agree. How the hell is Captain 'wood woof' Conan on there!!!

I do quite like the idea of putting together a definitive list though.

If you can bear to watch Bruce Millington there's a video here explaining the criteria

    Hilly Way another omission.
A dual Champion Chase on contrasting ground who was a top novice hurdler in 1976 winning Fingal hurdle and Champion Novice at Punchestown the same spring. More or less a novice chaser for first Champion chase, Tommy Carmody's second Festival win on his second ride, the horse had what it took in spades.
I remember John Francome singing Crisp's praises no end in a tv interview lately, saying the horse covered ground like no other at Uplands in an era of Pendil, Bula, Killiney so that is high praise indeed.
Back to what Inkslinger did in a short career, winning Champion Chase and Cathcart Cup in 1973 which cannot be repeated ever again surely worth #49 ahead of Captain Conan !

Dessie at number 3 makes the list suspect to me -wasn’t even the best 2 miler in the yard at the time.

Ola David. You could indeed be correct.

Alternatively: it could be because I am not thinking straight because i am very worried about my hero Maduro and the neo-liberal military/industrial complex global plot to oust him.

Voy Por Ustedes at 25 ROTFLMFAO!!!

He won and Arkle where the second was a stayer then won the worst QMCC in history . It was a dreadful race if ever there was one and he beat absolute zero 2 milers of note in his life

He was a decent horse over a longer trip but he should be at the bottom 5 in this list

I see the name Lee Mottershead attached to this. Enough said.

1 Flyingbolt - if Tom Dreaper struggled to separate him and himself, who am I to argue.

2 Badsworth Boy - the only one to win 3 x CC and the only one to win by a distance.

3 Sprinter Sacre - not an enormous fan originally but the second coming was very impressive.
The older I get the better I was.

Think that was the era of the 5lb allowance for 5yo as well. Which brought Dawn Run to mind who beat the champion chaser over 2m less than 2 months after winning the Gold Cup. She may have been able to handle Captain Conan.
