    David Cameron

Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband:

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly. _ Harry Limes

He abstained. He didn't support any side.

He was absolutely correct in terms of protecting The Republic of Ireland's interests, which was his first duty.

No one questions Muhammed Ali for not fighting in Vietnam.

With the benefit of hindsight, De Valera is worth a lot more respect than historians give him credit for.

He did the right thing for his country.

    End of.
None of which explains either a) why you've brought him up in the context of Brexit or b) how sending his country's condolences on Hitler's passing was doing the best by his country.

As I said, you need to expand on what point you are attempting to make.

Talk and token gestures mean little, actions have always spoken more than words. He abstained from World War Two. He was a neutral. That was the smart move.

I am guessing Hitler's dream of the Aryan Race was the very last thing on De Valera's mind when he told the British to go it alone.

You still haven't explained what this has to do with Brexit.

For the record, I don't see anything wrong with remaining neutral in ww2, I do see something wrong with sending condolences on Hitler's death given what was then known about the regime. It is unforgivable. But has **** all relevance to Brexit!!

You are right that it doesn't have anything specificly to do with Brexit, but is merely an observation, that if De Valera had fought with allied powers in WW2, knowing nearly eighty years later, that the Republic Of Ireland would be isolated by the British, because of Britains desire to walk away from Europe, he'd have wished he'd remained neutral in WW2.

If he were alive I reckon he'd be in stitches at the mess we're in and looking for an opportunity to reclaim the 6 counties.

QT bound to be lively tomorrow night. Rory Stewart and Barry Gardiner on the panel. Gardiner always worth a watch!
All comers, all grounds, all beaten!

Gardiner is Labour’s answer to Chris Grayling - a grossly over promoted incompetent arse entirely lacking in judgment.

I've always quite liked Sky News but only because it seems less biased than the Brexit Broadcasting Company and I like Beth Rigby; however I'm tending to not watch much news these days as Farage is always on and it's not good for my health. Just tend to stick with Channel 4 News these days. Can't believe that there's a Tory leadership contest going on when the countries in the biggest mess I've ever known it to be in [and that includes the Thatcher years....]...

I am mostly amused by the reports that the person most likely to replace Theresa May as PM wants to "prepare for a no deal Brexit" and at the same time wants to "use money currently set aside for a no-deal Brexit to raise the 40% tax rate threshold to £80,000"

Sounds to me as if he is as clueless as he appears.

Bet he snorts coke off hookers tits as well.

I'd like it if there was a market for "next allegation" against various politicians. I'd certainly drop a fiver on coke snorting or pig f*cking.
