    Enable - what a star

Loose ground, an interrupted year a very unpleasant and questionable Golden Freeze ride given to Hunting Horn and she still mows down Magicsl from out wide as the other horse hung towards her .

She is a legend and anyone who thinks Cracksman should be horse of the year should be seeing a doctor.

I struggle to think of a better one in my lifetime and few better middle distance horses generally.

Agree completely, and she should have been HOTY last season, were it not for ramping up potential stud fees.

Reet you are so correct....There are 50 or so horses rated higher than Pebbles All Along Dahlia Wynx Allez Franz and Enable because the can't make babies only have them.

As far as Enable being the best of all time foes I can only say there was no Alex France's Dahlai Pebbles All Along's or Zarkava's in any race she won. That's a tough call for anyone to make..but on toughness she is number uno

What I will say is rating Cracksman above her at any time is FAKE NEWS...

At first I thought like many Cracksmans performance was awesome at Ascot but when you look at the time clearly others ran miles below what they were capable off.........so off to stud before anyone realizes he really wasn't that good IMVHO

John Gosden and Frankie the best men to rate both but Enable has done it all time and again.
Seven Group1 victories in four countries and never defeated when it mattered.
Frankie's riding has been sublime ; we are lucky he got back on track after 2012/13.

And having done the Arc/Breeders Cup double she's achieved something that the legends of the sport couldn't. She has to go down as one of the all time greats. Difficult to rate by comparison even so.

Glad to see Enable get the job done. She should be celebrated given what she has achieved.

Regards the Cracksman drivel. In terms of performance his Champion was superior to what Enable has run this year just as it was last.

Not a big fan of the Dettori lookatmee personality, but he is a sublime jockey at the top of his game.

And that small head knew that Impaire Et Passe would win the Champion Hurdle."

Aye, that'd be why he swerved the Arc - 2 years in succesion.

In doing so won both big races 2 years running. Do keep up.

He beat fast ground horses in a bog in 2017 and this year Crystal Ocean hated the ground , lost a shoe and received a shocker of a ride and they went a moderate gallop meaning a Leger winner had nil chance .

Cracksman should be rated through Subway Dancer and that means about 122.

He would probably have been third in the 2017 Arc and unplaced this year on quick .

It's never a bog at Ascot. And saying he should be rated via Subway Dancer is like rating Faugheen's CH win via Arctic Fire. Horses who are ridden purely to place in big races are the least reliable barometer one can use.

I don’t buy that at all

1 The round course at Ascot can get very heavy .

2 Subway Dancer wasn’t ridden to place a la Theatreworld - he was chased along entering the straight and pulled wide - had he not been interfered with by Verbal Dexterity he might have snatched second . He is the only horse that ran to their best form on favoured conditions namely 108.

Surely, the corollary of that is that Subway Dancer ran above his previous best, because of it? A previous best that earned him a lofty 108 OR.
Likewise, judging a horse on its ability to quicken on soft ground (on a course that probably favours it more than any gd1 in Western Europe) is equally fraught, but it hasn't stopped Timeform et al overrating Cracksman for 2 performances he's never replicated elsewhere.

When you say beat you mean completely dismantled them.
I'll be generous and say even if it was a few pounds shy of the Champion last year, it was still a better performance than what Enable served up in the Arc.
So you have plucked 3rd for last year. Ok we will take Cloth Of Stars. One I fancied to run well. More than likely Cracksman would have dealt with him given how he spat him out in the Ganay.
Given the performance of the Arc this year even the ground may not have stopped him winning.

Can we just plop Enable in the Champion with Cracksman. How far behind would she finish!

I think she'd get within a couple of lengths.

    She wouldn't - Cracksman would've ducked it.
