This weekends National Hunt Races (3rd November).

    Plenty to discuss.

I've been through the Greatwood Hurdle Entries. Of the two trackers I was expecting to be entered, (If The Cap Fits and Solomon Grey), only If The Cap Fits has been entered. Maybe they want to wait a bit longer with Solomon Grey or go novice chasing.

One with form that ties into both the above horses on Boxing Day at Kempton is Harry Whittington's Simply The Betts. He has a Greatwood entry, but could also run in the Handicap Hurdle at Ascot this weekend with Gavin Sheehan booked to ride. He is very interesting first time up in a handicap hurdle, with no surprise to me if he does the business. He is currently 8/1 for Saturday, top price 33/1 for The Greatwood. If he wins Saturday he must go shorter for The Greatwood, but I need to look at the last few renewals to measure his chance of actually making the cut on a rating of 130.

They don't do the weights for the Greatwood until after the weekend, issued on the 8th, so he'll be more than 130 if he goes well on Saturday.
We have Shanning entered. She is 133 in Ireland and that puts her about 42 out of 56. There's a 5 day confirmation stage prior to declaration so we'll have a better idea then but there wasn't a maximum field last year and in the previous 10 years, only two editions had more than 20 runners.

Cheers Archie. Yes, Saturday would be a good time to win for Simply The Betts by the looks of it, certianly if he has hopes of getting in The Greatwood.

Simply The Betts declared for an interesting 9 runner handicap hurdle tomorrow at Ascot. I am guessing his price for tomorrow will be getting shorter and shorter, so while I will put him in my Saturday patent, I may also take a position at 33/1 each way for The Greatwood Hurdle, just in case he really does turn out to be well handicapped after tomorrow's race.
