    O'Learys must be going soft

"We haven't decided what Samcro will do yet and at the moment I would say it is 50-50," said O’Leary when asked what the most exciting young horse in training would be doing this season. He added: "He went back into training with Gordon a few weeks ago, but it is still very early days so nothing has been set in stone.
"The Champion Hurdle at Punchestown was supposed to tell us where we were going. If he'd won that he was staying over hurdles and, if he was beaten, we were going chasing. He fell before we knew what would have happened, so it didn’t decide anything."
Some people say heís the best since Arkle and thatís certainly true when you look at what heís done

    Paddy Powers bet...

Samcro First Start Of The 2018/19 Season (Settled On First Official Start)
    Hurdles 4/9
    Chase 7/4
    Surely 7/4's the bet?

Powers have laid a bet to suggest he won't. You hardly think they plucked this opinion out of the air.

Perhaps they have, but still wouldn't plough into the 4/9

If they've laid the 4/9 then 8-1 for the champion hurdle is the bet.

Be dissapointed if he jumps anything other than a fence in his career

He didn't jump a hurdle too smartly the last time. Why would they make any decision until he's fit enough to school over fences?

It is the itch you cannot scratch syndrome.
A young horse possibly Champion Hurdle standard ; looking at Faugheen who could have gone chasing after his novice hurdle career I imagine all concerned are glad he did not.
Only Tim Forster and Dan Moore would bypass a Champion Hurdle in their day and the latter had a go with l'Escargot in 69 when second favourite.

Hen bypassed it too with Best Mate and reaped the rewards, although a certain Istabraq may have swayed her.

Hard to see them persevering over the small ones with Samcro

I get that. I know from speaking to Cantoris (Oran) all the way back when, they agonised over the decision to go over fences after his Supreme. Colm and the family made the correct decision as it turned out. Second time of asking under Barry Cash and then a narrow victory the following year. It could all have been very different though.

I see Samcro as different though. This is the O'Leary's we're talking about. A production line of horses, and a stated intent to go for the most winnable races, and with the aim of buying chasers not hurdlers, to win Champion Chase's, Ryanair's, and most significantly Gold Cup's. Going down the Champion Hurdle route would be a complete u-turn in their modus operandi.

In that case surely, an Arkle, or more likely a JLT given breeding and hurdles camplaign would be easily the more likely. 80/20 in my mind.

Samcro 7/1 to go unbeaten through the season (Both UK and Irish) seems fair value to me providing he goes chasing. Less so if he stays over Hurdles.

Does look fair value. Who is offering 7/1?

    Black Op goes chasing

He’s gave Samcro something to think about then put up a tough performance to win at Aintree. He’s schooled over fences, he's a great jumper. He’ll get 3m but probably start over 2m4f - we’re excited by him!”

I agree 7/1 is a fair price for a season long interest, but will hold off until it becomes a little clearer whether he stays over hurdles

Do you still collect if Samcro gets injured early in the season or even doesn't run at all?

To be valid Samcro needs at least one run. If it doesn`t run the bet is void. Footpad also looks good value @ same odds.
