Imagine making it your business to get out of bed at 8am on the weekend because a programme was that good.

And central to it all was Mac, with what it says in the papers. Knew a bit about betting too..

A one off is right. Rip.

Nah, that's nothing compared to the heart felt affection and deep personal remorse expressed by Shadow Leader at the sad passing of Clement Freud. If you want to see what a true and sincere eulogy looks like I suggest you dig it out. It remains the undisputed Talking Horses benchmark, unsurpassed for its warmth and generosity to the man's memory as she eloquently guides us through a long list of his personal qualities and the fond memories she had of him
Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly. _ Harry Limes

I saw the great man a few times punting furiously in the Hills shop in Wardour Street-have no doubts SL was spot on.

That's a touching and fitting tribute from one of racing's great celebrities from Cat. Even those who he turned off would respect the man reading that.

I feel very proud to have been able to record these interviews with Mac, he was a very nice man under that bluster and really did a huge amount to promote racing.

Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done
