    First Season Sires.

I know almost everyone on here is anticipating the Festival and will not be interested in the whippets that will be appearing at the end of next month but for the handful of us who are not totally enamoured with the jumpers here is something to look forward to.

    First Season Sires 2018

Top first season can be calculated in a number of ways, most total earnings, most winning earnings and the one some bookmakers offer prices on is on the total number of races a stallionís offspring wins.

Over the last three years the sire that has won the most races in a season has been one that has showed pace and class in his races on the track and a certain amount of precocity.

2015 ZOFFANY (Best RPR 120) a Group 1 winner and successful over 6,7 and 8 furlongs and won on his 2-y-o debut.

2016 SIR PRANCELOT (110) a Group 2 winning sprinter also won on his 2-y-o debut.

2017 SOCIETY ROCK (122) a Group 1 winning sprinter who didnít win on debut but won his second 2-y-o race.

SIR PRANCEALOT the least classy of the three made up for that by having plenty of ammunition and finished well clear in his yearí

So if we are looking for this seasonís champion freshman it should be amongst the classy sprinters who have plenty of ammunition.

Here is a list of the most likely stallions to make an impression this year:

The list includes the best Racing Post Rating achieved, the number of coverings and the number of live foals. The foals figure is likely to be lower than the actual foals produced as some studs are late returning the numbers.

    ALBAASIL - a Group 2 miler with a best RPR of 115 - 10 coverings and 10 foals.

ALHEBAYEB - winner of the Group 2 July Stakes as a 2-y-o and won on his 2-y-o debut RPR 109 175 coverings 120 foals.

As I explained in previous years the covering and foal figures come from the Return of Mares. Unfortunately there are a lot of No Returns at that stage which can turn out to be live foals, dead foals, exported foals etc.. So you are right that he has 124 foals. So the figures I gave to Colin are just an indication of the number of live foals and are likely to be on the low side. Posts like yours help the situation.

Thank you Colin for putting this thread up again. I always look forward to it.

Twenty entries for the first 2-y-o race of the season, the Brocklesby, and the fact that FSS BUNGLE INTHEJUNGLE has three of those suggests his stock are precocious. Could be this years Sir Prancealot?

War Command would be my choice also, once decent ground prevails through the season.

    Interesting topic Colin

looking at the market see War Command is the mover.

At the odds though win only like Heeraat at 25-1, mainly due to his Dark Angel connection
Win some, lose some, but always enjoying it
