    Rich Ricci- the future

Was thinking about this last season with the below average novice crop he had.

His Golden generation of horses are almost no more anymore.

I can't think an owner will ever be as lucky or have a crop like he once had

    vautour
    Faugheen
    Douvan
    Annie
    Vroum Vroum
    Djackadam

all for one reason or another not either with us or nothing left to give.

His crop of novices this year don't look to have a superstar. Min looks disappointing and his bumpers look a bit average.

Granted Willie campaigns them for the spring but not sure if they have a superstar right now.

Ricci likes the spotlight, I wonder how long he takes not being the Don anymore.
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

What goes around comes around I say. All that fiddling over the years.
Does not help when you pay a lot of money for a dog of a horse like Epicuris.

Was thinking about this myself last night and you could also add Graham Wylie as someone who might not be as prominent in 2 or 3 years time.

Was interesting today, pretty much straight after faugheen today he was giving an interview in the parade ring. Admirable in one sense, but perhaps reveals his motivation which is to be noticed and the centre of attention.

Ricci: “He’s not distressed or anything, Paul pulled him up because he wasn’t going anywhere. I just don’t know, hopefully we have a horse to come back and have another day with. There doesn’t appear to be any injury.”

Thanks to Ricci’s involvement/money we have seen some amazing horses giving amazing performances. Like him or not can’t begrudge him what he has won. He certainly hasn’t been the luckiest owner. The sport needs such people.

I agree -he has been good for the game-when you see ordinary people looking for selfies with owners it can't be bad.

In terms of the crop he had, I'd think he was lucky enough.

I wouldn't begrudge him his horses as he invested plenty of money and didn't always spend fortunes.

Fact he likes media attention probably hasn't helped his image with certain racegoers.

Compare his business model to that of Barry Connell and you can see who made the better choices.

What is amazing is the run of luck WPM had running up to last year.

Paul Townend hopped off the horse after he pulled him up and chose not to walk him back up the track.

Can't take to the bloke myself. The Vautour saga will never be forgiven in my eyes.
Also, even on a cold grey December he's still got shades on!

At a wedding so I missed the race.
Had WPM a beaten horse Tuesday that was abnormal post race ?
There may be a bug in (one of his) yards.
Reminds me of a Leopardstown Festival Noel Meade had six or seven years ago when his horses did not raise a gallop.
I do hope all is well and Ricci stays around for longer but nothing is permanent in racing and Ricci's will not be the first Empire to crumble if ti does.
How was Ruby taking it all on TV ?

Pity you didn't post about it last season when you were thinking about it, rather than today.

Interesting that Joe Chambers said just before Christmas they have their biggest crop of novice hurdlers ever this year - though clearly no superstar has emerged as you say. Will be interesting to see what else they bring out.

I don't understand the comments about people not taking to him. He comes across as very knowledgeable and willing to share his views with the press - far more than can be said for a lot of owners. Think comments about him needing to be the centre of attention are a bit harsh.

Completely agree. People would soon moan if he said nout.

I half expected this thread and yes WPM is having problems BUt look at Jackdaw....you can't have 100 horses + and think you will never have a c0old or a virus hit your yard like a tornado/

WPM is first class but at the moment has some contamination spreading through his yard.........it will disappear then things will go back to normal

If Ricci wants to jump ship..bye bye cya..Willie will still be a top trainer without him

If you lot can't see WPM is the one having the problem and not Rich Ricci you should change your sports to tiddlywinks
