Think they'll change their shirts back to white now?

I think it's all a bit unfortunate really. If Brazil had gone out on pens to Chile that team's game against Colombia would have been a good one and whoever won it would have been a lot better this evening.

    Lay Germany in the final.

Just as Holland were hugely flattered in their opening hammering of Spain, Germany are hugely flattered by this result.

There was no mental strength anywhere in this Brazil team tonight. No will to win, or any will that was there was misplaced and energy mis-channelled.

It was very reminiscent of that night in Paris when Ronaldo flipped, only much worse.

I hope Strachan can arrange a coupe of friendlies against Brazil. They'd make us look good.

I don't feel sorry for any of the Brazilian players.

I feel sorry for the fans. They're loads of fun and always a spectacle. They deserve better than this.

Van Persie may miss tomorrow's game.

I tend to think this could happen to the Argentinians as well if they get to final another one man team

I can't quite believe we've just witnessed such awful defending in a WC semi final.

The England team weren't much better when we met Germany 4 years ago.

I consider that an appropriate hammering.

Can anyone tell me why Hansen said he was 'distraught' and that last night 'was his lowest point in football'?

Last night, we saw a team and a manager get their comeuppance. Their sense of entitlement and destiny was exposed to ridicule ('we have one hand on the trophy'), their average (Fred, Hulk, Oscar, Maicon) and braindead players (Luiz, Marcelo) shown up and their brutal tactics not able to get them through this time.

Why was he 'distraught' for Brazil? They haven't been a good team to watch for 30 years! I could understand someone saying that if Spain suffered that humiliation but to see this average bunch exposed was far from sad.

Last night was the opposite to what Hansen said, one of the great nights of football. As bad as Brazil were, Germany were great, and kept it up. They played simply but fantastically well, and in Kroos, have a contender for player of the tournament. Khedira was savage too, and Lahm great from full back.

    What a 6 minutes!

Hansen is a myopic who is basically only interested in how defences play.

It's amazing to think that there are people in their early 30's who have never seen a great Brazil side (Ronaldo/Rivaldo team not a patch on the '82 side, who were the last truly great side they've produced).

I think he was distraught because Brazil were beaten even worse than our team 4 years ago. It's always bothered me, having Hansen punditing when the England team play because he so obviously wants them to lose [or am I just being cynical?]. Pity he's leaving the Beeb, though.

I suspect he was putting it on a bit. Much as I dislike him as a pundit (he's really just clever with hindsight) he and I are probably contemporaries who came through our teens marvelling at wondrous Brazil players, teams and performances. It's true they haven't been like that for a good while but to [misguided] people like Hansen and me they still have an aura. I suspect the players thought they had that aura too and only had to run about a bit to take care of Germany. Losing that first goal was a total shock to them and they never recovered.

Had Marcelo scored (and landed the 50/1 ) with that first shot of the match we might well have seen a different Brazil. They would have been pumped to fcuk. But you cannot be that mercurial at the top level. It will win you games but not tournaments.

Can anyone tell me why near on 4/5 about the Argies qualifying isn't a great bet?

I think as a team Argentina will struggle against Holland..you are relying a lot on just one or two players with Argentina whereas Holland look a better all round side.

I think Argentina have been pretty average and now they play someone who can expose them as Germany did with Brazil ..it looks a similar scenario ...obviously they didn't have Messi...i don't see a team winning a semi relying on one player

just my view really..gut feeling is that tonight unless Argentina put it together as a team..rather than just relying on one player... they are going to struggle
