A real downer after what had been a fairytale result in the race. Probably the most popular horse in Australia.

Edgardo Sol has been lost. One I've always liked. Sad news.

They were very unlucky with this chap
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Don't know - just saw it reported by the stud today. They had sold her a few years ago now, so might not know the details themselves - but if they do they haven't said. Big shame

That is a shame - didn't he finish the race today?

Yes but Aidan dismounted very quickly and they unsaddled him out on the course.

Apparently he severed a tendon (do not understand why these trainers don't run their horses in reinforced boots in front - we ALWAYS use them pointing)

Also Battling Boru was pulled up with an injury that turned out to be life ending sadly.

Absolutely gutted to see that Red Cadeaux has been euthanised after suffering complications relating to the injury sustained in the Melbourne Cup. All the sadder for it looking as though he would pull through and enjoy a peaceful retirement. RIP Red.

What a heartbreaker. Had so hoped he would pull through following such initial positive news. Being reported that he will be laid to rest at Flemington.

RIP Red and thanks for the memories.
