    20/80 Thread

Starting with a bank of 200pts - each bet will be 2pts win 8pts place betfair

Races must have minimum 8 runners before n/r's declared on the day as betfair will still pay 3 places.

Place odds must not be less than 1.5

Odds will be settled on betfair starting prices which I hope to beat every time - if betfair place odds starting price is returned shorter than 1.5 then bet void for thread.

    Doing Fine 13.50 Chepstow

    Karinga Dancer 13:55 Aintree

    Boyfromnowhere 14:25 Chepstow

Pure Faith / Viva Colonia 15.05 Aintree

    Dolatulo 15:55 Stratford

    Hold Court 16:10 Chepstow

I may add more as the day goes on but will not edit.

I never understood the attraction of the 20-80 concept. The best place bets are e/w with the books who are betting over broke on the place and rarely on the machine.

The reason for me is if you place at 1.4 you still make a profit whereas 50/50 you don't. I think if the place odds are over evens then e/way may be a better option maybe? I backed that willie muir 40/1 I put up the other day 20/80 and got the place at 10.0 so in that sense it worked in my favour but when they win it doesn't.

Karinga Dancer just won and the place I got was 2.28 but BFSP was 1.49 but e/way would have shown a bigger profit.

I'll give it a run and see what happens. As I have a large majority of my bets on the machine it also suits my small stake gambling.

True - I'll go through my history and settle at those prices - probably easier anyway.

    Nice start SC.

Bulk of my bets do tend to be place only or a larger bet on the place, as it smooths out the erratic ups and downs of my betting.

Maiden Approach last night was an example of a winning getting away; thought it was nailed on to place, but lost out on the win.

    Good luck

Good luck SC - really like County Champions as a racehorse but given how she was ridden at least once in her bumpers I get the impression that she might be better in handicaps for Robert Tyner.

Off track since December 2012 and only one win from six hurdle starts from two to two and a half miles. Has been 130 but disappointing last two starts.

“He’s just been a very unhealthy horse but is fine at the moment – looking good. I’m inclined to use his mark in a novices handicap chase first time over fences over two and a half miles.”
