    Jockey News

Following the news that Jonjo O’Neill says jockey Maurice Linehan has broken his sternum and two vertebrae after his fall from Mister Hyde in the Racing Plus Chase, thought we might start a thread keeping us up to date with news of injuries, expected dates to resume race riding, suspensions, enquiries and all things similar.

    Great idea!
The paper version of the RP has the daily "Jockeys on the sidelines" column, though (AFAIA) it's never been available on the internet.

Tom O'Brien given a 10-day suspension for apparently not trying hard enough on a 66-1 shot. Not going to appeal, so misses the Cheltenham Festival.

Most cheating involves 66/1 shots, in fairness.

Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Incredible negligence though. He only had to keep him going for one and a half seconds more. The only possible reason for doing it was to look like a smart arse, which is a dubious credential to hold. 28 days is harsh. Corporal punishment is better. You want someone sturdy with a firm piece of birch chasing him around the track for a lap or two.

I just watched the race again and he was definitely in the wrong but also a little bit unfortunate. Selling plater blinkers he's like most in that class a bit quirky.

Normally in a situation like that the horses momentum when a jokey drops his hands would have carried him across the line but that thing dug a toe and jammed the brakes on. Any harder Probert would have shot over his head..........doesn't alter the fact he should not have stopped riding as the rules say.

Luke Nolan got away with it at Ascot David Probert didn't, such is life.
