All comers, all grounds, all beaten!
This perfect mix of poetry and destruction.
Ascot Gold Cup winner Colour Vision down the field that day.

One of my earliest memories of flat racing. Massive shock at the time at the time, but, in isolation, Roberto's performance that day was incredible - he's beaten a 144-rated horse by three lengths. Everything behind Brigadier Gerard has run to its form, too.

Course record still stands I believe. He broke it by 17 seconds though so some catching up to do.
The commentary of course is an add on as BBC did not cover Sandown Park at that time and the footage, when thought lost was recovered had no commentary.

On this day in 1963 Manchester racecourse closed. Best Song ridden by Jimmy Lindley and trained by Towser Gosden (Father of John) won the Manchester November Handicap carrying 9st 6lb and the final race was won by Lester Piggott on Fury Royal who finished one winner behind Scobie Breasley in the race for the jockeys' title.
On this day in 1997 Sir Peter O'Sullevan gave his last commentary for the BBC before retirement. The Hennessy Gold Cup was won by Suny Bay (Graham Bradley). It proved to be an emotional afternoon, capped when his own colours were carried to victory by Sounds Fyne in the Fulke Walwyn Chase.
