I got round this evening to catching up on the recording of ITV's coverage yesterday.

As far as the racing is concerned it's still total shite.

McCoy is hopeless as a pundit, lazy and thoughtless. Blake is insightful.

What they do well is their effort to make the sport appeal to a wider audience which, for me, is a battle they're never going to win. People nowadays are too fickle to keep their attention for any longer than that of a gnat.

The only other thing they do that I like is - and I know plenty on here disagree - is the immediate post-race interview with a jockey. I thought Coleman was brilliant in the immediate aftermath of Paisley Park's win, basically admitting he was seriously worried he'd come too soon. I reckon he'll give Penhill plenty to think about in March.

Matchbook is like the broadsheet and FF the tabloid

On the tv side of things

HD picture is a huge boost for racing

Sundays coverage is decent as Irish racing gets the time it deserves

Saturdays there is just too much going on.

I think the RUK coverage would benefit from having a jockey or trainer on-board.

Kate Harrington fails badly if this is her role

Ruby will obviously do it when he packs it in but until then they should get someone in

RUK coverage of the parade ring pre race Sunday's is good also
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Many of you will know Rory from this place as well as his broadcast and print journalism. I thought his column in the Irish Field on Saturday was both brave and raw. It can be read at the link below.

"And still they gazed and still the wonder grew. That one small head could carry all he knew.

And that small head knew that Impaire Et Passe would win the Champion Hurdle."

Speaking to my trainer today he informed me that trainers association have declined interviews with Racing TV until they get free subscription to the channel , the same deal that jockeys enjoy.
Some leading trainers have agreed to this, so I am told.
AIRO members have an offer of 12 Euro a month for 12 months according to an email I received today.
I must take the offer up having missed the Black Friday deal.

I was amazed when he went toe to toe with Dickinson-unprecedented in racing.

Agree fully with all comments on Nick luck

He has made that show his own and his bosses have allowed him to be himself and push his guests

Hands down the best Racing coverage on tv/radio/podcast on a weekly basis

To some of the older posters on here - In a way Nick luck reminds me of what i imagine hamm would of been like in real life

Luke Harvey laughing like a hyena on Get In last night, when Ted Walsh said Martin Blackshaw had been killed not that long after riding Churchtown Boy in the National but that his death had nothing to do with the National - Bizarre

Matt Chapman has just put up a list of GN fancies that includes Auvergnat. DG has posted in the GN thread that the trainer has ruled the horse out. What a tool Chapman is

    Awful stuff from ITV today

Ms Cumani back talking a load of cobblers, and looking like she didn’t want to be there...as it was cold

Harvey saying Clan a horse who has to be produced late will “make the running “ !

RUK were a disaster at Gowran today

Ignored the bumper and the novice chase coverage was a mockery

We wondered why she was there? It wasn't cold either. Nicholls on fire. And what a nice young man Harry Derham is.

I noticed in the ITV credits that Tanya Stevenson is still involved in Terrestrial coverage as their “Statistician “....

Resisting all all efforts to push her off the gravy train.Having read a few items that she has written I shudder to think what she produces as statistics -I won't even ask what her qualifications are.

yeah strange one, as most stats especially for the big races are accessible in the trade paper

A more general point on coverage. I know today was a busy day with good racing on, but there is no news story on RP or ATR regarding Blackmore riding a treble at Gowran today (with townend getting a winner also).

Maybe it is just me, but I am finding this battle to be a really interesting theme/story of the season yet it seems to have gotten very little coverage since Christmas.
