    Irish Guineas Weekend

The Irish Guineas meeting is taking place in Ireland this weekend.

15 entries have been made for the Irish 2,000 Guineas. 7 of them are trained by Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien. They are Nephrite, Daddy Long Legs, Power and 4 other unmemorably named colts that seem to blend into one in my mind.

I am not sure if the entries have been made for the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
    Welsh and Proud.

The ones in bold ran at Newmarket. No Camelot or French Fifteen but the 3rd and 4th from Newmarket are there and having the Dewhurst winner, a couple of colts trying to redeem themselves (Born To Sea and Power) and a couple of other interesting ones should make it competitive.

Paddy Power go 5s Hermival, Power and Takar with Parish Hall (11/2) and Trumpet Major (6s) just behind.

Crusade, Daddy Long Legs, Nephrite and Reply are also in the 6f Greenland Stakes on the same card.

One of my favourite weekends of the year. I shall be there as usual.
Hannon quoted after the English Guineas that Trumpet Major would skip this and go straight to Royal Ascot. Presumably the likely fast ground has changed his mind.

For those if you who like stats, the last Irish trained winner outside of Ballydoyle was Flash of Steel in 1986. Not that Jim will be worried.

I think Daddy Long Legs (at 12-1) is the most interesting of the Ballydoyle runners, although I'd like to see Hannon's plans confirmed.

    Power is. Not the Daddy.

Easy mistake to make. Obviously the Daddy has unbelievable natural speed.

I'm surprised at them thinking of bringing Wrote back to a mile, I thought he looked one paced in the Derrinstown.

Being by High Chaparral you'd think he'd want further yet I thought he didn't see out his race at Meydan and that was 1m1.
In the Derrinstown, he never looked likely. I'd be very disappointed if he finished in front of DLL. The obvious concern with the latter named is the possible effects of all his travels and negative experience last time out in Kentucky. I suppose that's all factored into the price though.

Should Parish Hall not be favourite? How the hell are Takar and Power heading the betting?

If Parish Hall were trained by Oxx he would be 11/4 for this. Fantastic trainer he may be but his animals are as underpriced in Ireland as Stoute's are over here.

Power is yer typical hyped up Ballydoyle animal with **** all substance to his form. He is another One Cool Cat.

If you fancy Parish Hall so strongly then I don't see how you can dismiss Power so readily. His National Stakes form is also decent.

Apart from the Dewhurst altogether, there is very little between Power and Parish Hall through Dragon Pulse.

Power ran like a drain in the Guineas - he's priced up as if that never happened. Parish Hall is a horse I fancy for the Derby as his female line suggests he'll stay a mile and a half. But the Curragh is a stiffer track than Newmarket so this mile might suit him.

Similar to Euro, I like Parish Hall’s chances of being at least placed in the Irish Guineas (but can’t fancy Power too much) and yet whatever Parish Hall does in the Guineas he can be expected to improve on at middle distances.

He's one of a dwindling small handful who would stand any sort of chance against Camelot in the Derby.

Dragon Pulse was unplaced in a poor renewal of the Poulains and David Livingston has been well beaten in two starts this season. The form hasn't been franked at all.

Yeah, he's an each way bet for me rather than win only.
