I'd also be interested to hear who is financing the deal. Could be himself, his missus or one of his owners. Or a combination!

Is Annie from a wealthy background ? She would need to be if she is providing the finance.

Her father used to be an owner/trainer I think. I believe he's not short of a few bob.

I memtioned this thread to someone who chats to Gordon Elliot. He relayed the story to him. Elliot says he will be building the exact same gallop and no horse will go to the new yard until it's 100% finished. That could mean him being in his current yard for the next 12 months.

Even if he started building now, it would be 6 months before he could move. So 12 months probably sounds right. I wonder will he run horses from both yards. It's a big risk moving a big stable to a new yard so little by little might be the case and see how the gallop goes before moving the rest.

    That's very interesting thanks, Gearoid.

Elliot seems to have the right people behind him.

I was surprised last week to see that Steps to Freedom who won the Aintree Bumper for Elliott, was now being trained by Jessica Harrington.

Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Quite a bit is made in that Irish Indo article about Elliott's non-racing background and it claims that his father was a mechanic and his mother a housewife.

But it seems that's not the case at all because this Examiner article tells us he is a man "who has literally come up out of the ground like a mushroom".

One of the first things I do every Saturday is read his article in the Examiner.

One of the great features of morning gallops Cheltenham Tuesday is the appearance of WPM's batallion of stars.
All other Irish trainers have their horses off the gallops when they appear bar GE whose string stubbornly hold their ground.
His string has been increasing to high 20s in the last few seasons.
Come March they could well be numerically matched horse for horse.
Now that I am looking forward to !

Ollie Murphy off to train on his own in the UK

Considerable loss to Elliott. he is always keen to mention the strength of his support

He's the son of bloodstock agent Aidan Murphy and will be training near his Mother's 350 acre estate near Stratford on Avon in a yard which has 30 boxes.

And will get access to some very nice horses. He'll definitely be one to look out for in a couple of years.

Their place is not far from me, and I could easily be tempted early doors.

In time I wouldn't be surprised if Gigi didn't start placing horses over here given all the multiple entries they have to make in Ireland, and if he gets off to bright start I wouldn't be at all surprised if O'Leary tested the water with him. Short-term it may even pay him to take a punt on a couple of their cast-offs.

He might be used as a hub by Elliott in the way Paddy Sleator did with Arthur Thomas all those years ago ?

History can a funny way of repeating itself.

Bar a few articles in Sean Graham annuals was there ever a proper biography done on Paddy Sleator anyone ?

By all accounts I came across he was light years ahead of the posse.
