Season 1 of Top Boy was ok, but season 2 is a bit "soapy" for my liking.

It just struck me as a vehicle for the [very good] cast to dress up 1920s style and swear like second-year boys. There was a degree of tittering in the audience from people who liked it but not much, to be honest. I have to say, the TV trailer appealed to me but it turns out that was highly sanitised.

I hope you do enjoy it, though. It would be a shame if you went all the way into the pictures and, like me, didn't enjoy it.

Time for a wee [connected] rant. I don't go to the pictures often. The last time was December 2023 when Orchidette got me a ticket to join her for a showing of Shop Around the Corner in the GFT. That was great. I love the film and had never seen it on the big screen, and it started bang on time. Today Mrs O was in a bit of a flap trying to make sure we got there on time cos we live in the country and the bus service is hourly at best. We were there in plenty of time but there was fully 35 minutes, probably nearer 40, of ads and trailers before the film started. All that time watching shite ads for shite and shite trailers for shite films I had no interest in whatsoever. Is that what happens in all cinemas these days? Maybe I'm as well not going often.

    Rant over.

    For now.
Yes it is - at least you'll know for next time. There is sometimes a plus side to sitting through them as may see a trailer for something which wouldn't come across your radar normally.

    Kin brilliant
Just finished the first season. I liked it but the Godfather rip off/tribute at the end of the last episode was a bit heavy handed.

Kin was recommended to Mrs O and me by one of the extended family.

I'm the contrary type who tends to be put off by recommendations, to be honest.

While I was up to my ears in the form for Cheltenham Mrs O watched an episode and a half of Kin on that recommendation. She gave up and said I definitely wouldn't have liked it, partly because it wasn't great anyway _ she's difficult to please as far as TV/films go but I'm 20 times worse - but because of the bad language.

I'm not a prude (I don't think) and can swear with the best of them but I really do dislike swearing in films and on TV, especially if it's entirely gratuitous.

So I can't see me giving Kin an airing. I even gave up on Derry Girls after a while.

The swearing is definitely excessive. It's a big difference to my other show at the moment - going through Suits. Just finished the second season. Love it.

I actually went to see Dune 2 at the cinema last week and had to leave 15 minutes in as my Catheter was giving me issues, kept getting spasms. Turns out my body was rejecting it (partly because I wasn't drinking enough water) and I ended up having to visit A&E for a new one the following day. Good times.

Euro, I'll PM you at some point re catheter issues. I'm being monitored at the moment.

One film I forgot to mention recently is The Outfit with Mark Rylance in the lead role.

I'd have to say the gangster characters weren't entirely convincing but from a technical point of view it's quite riveting. If you watch it you'll know what I'm getting at.

I had the misfortune to watch Barbie at the weekend - vacuous nonsense, followed by lecture, followed by vacuous nonsense and then another lecture. What a pile of old shite!

Fortunately, then watched Obsession - a 1949 thriller with Robert Newton. Excellent wee piece.

I watched it around the same time I watched Oppenheimer. I think I got as far as 5 minutes into Barbie before I decided to go & watch the kettle boiling.
