Yeah, i had to go back to the top of the page to clarify who LoL and CC were.Originally posted by an capall@Dec 27 2007, 09:48 AM
I think CC, LoL and KK are all overated.
Kicking King’s Gold Cup may well have been over rated but his King George win and in particular his thrashing (in terms of distance and style) of Rathgar Beau (who was having the season of his life and went on to run a close third in the Ryanair) left me in no doubt he was a 170 plus horse.
When you consider how close KK ran Well Chief in the Arkle over two miles and the King George performances as mentioned [the second when injured] then he definitely merits his position. In fact, over two and a half miles or a sharp three I would say he would be very, very difficult to beat in his prime.
I have never seen KK as anything but a 170+ horse
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done
To get an explanation for Mossbank's rating, look at the previous statement about Commanche Court. They have to give Mossbank 170, in order to prop-up Denman's rating.
I also make KK a 170+ animal, but even at his best, I have him miles short of his Timeform high-water-mark of 182.

Sound Man an omission from the list if Klairon Davis rating to be believed; unlucky to miss 2 mile chase a few years.
As for Life Of A Lord, any horse that can win a Galway Plate as easily off top weight deserves a high rating; how high i cannot tell.
He was head and shoulders top 3 miler of his time when right.
Commanche Court won Irish National at 6 as a maiden chaser and followed up at Punchestown the following week, a neat trick for a Triumph Hurdle and Austrian Derby winner.
These horses may be over rated but were extremely talented multi taskers.
Kempes another multi tasker that passed away too soon.
Sizing Europe another omission who would put most of these to the sword

Rereading this thread
A few thoughts
It's a shame we have lost some brilliant contributors and some don't post as often
A few of us have been posting for many many years now
The list needs a modern twist with the likes of Vautour, Douvan, Sizing Europe, Flemenstar, Don Cossack
