I was really taken by this fella's win today. Won it cosily despite a momentum stopped error close hope. Travelled like a very smart horse. Interesting to see where he goes next...could be and Irish or English National horse by the end of the season...goes well on decent ground too.

Thought Gazza’s Girl ran her heart out maybe got there a bit early. First two pulled well clear of the rest on the run in. Royal County Star exchanged a good bump with the early leader at the second last and would have probably won a little cosier but for that.

Would expect a rematch in the Paddy Power chase over Christmas. Last years Troytown winner Cane Break went on to win at Leopardstown under top weight.

Like many of the very best ten-furlong horses, Powerscourt has that ability to quicken. He's a very tough and genuine horse and was a joy to train."—Aidan O'Brien

I was hugely taken too, have followed this horse since last season. He will need to improve his jumping for the Nationals i he is aimed for those races.

How is it a terrible name?

The 'Royal County' is the nickname for County Meath so the name has a degree of logic behind it. Tony Martin trains in Meath, where you would also find Fairyhouse and Navan racecourse which is fitting enough consider yesterday's success and the prospect of an upcoming Irish National bid. Perfect headline fodder - for those who understand it.

Now, in fairness, Meath is a terrible county populated by largely annoying people. But all the same - it's an acceptable name

 :angy: Enough of the jealousy-perpetuated bollocks please.. I'll have to presume you're from Louth after such an obscene comment..

For what it's worth, the horse is named after Jack Quinn (who is part of the syndicate that own's the horse), who was a indeed a Royal County star in his day.. won an All-Ireland medal in '67 (at least i think it was '67).. long before my time..

Getting back to the horse, I was very impressed as well.. thought he had blown it at the second last (had a look around coming to the last as well) but always looked like he would get up on the run-in.. fine ride by Robbie Colgan as well..

Didn't know the Jack Quinn connection, TS. The first football final I ever went to (69) Jack played full back against Kerry. He was a big man who caught everything in around the square.

    Happily, Meath were stuffed.

Roal County Star obviously has an engine but I thought he was going to try and run out after the second last on Sunday. It will be interesting to see what the master trainer does with him.
