Lordy, I hope KS doesn't go for the Hennessy - for some reason it always seems to bottom the winner: when did a Hennessy winner last go on to do anything significant, esp the same season? Maybe it comes too early in the year and horses have to give their all over 3m before fully race fit... Any theories?

Wouldn't like to see Denman run either, tho I think that might be tempting for connections - it's usually won by a 2nd season chaser isn't it? Presumably he'd be near top weight [assuming KS didn;t run] - but so was Trabolgan wasn't he? - not that he'd have had to carry as much as I presume Denman would

Nope, but when he is, he'll be getting lashings of my cash on him when he runs!

    New Alco.
"And still they gazed and still the wonder grew. That one small head could carry all he knew.

And that small head knew that Impaire Et Passe would win the Champion Hurdle."

Have a feeling Nicholls has lined Mr Pointment up for this. Was given an interesting ride last time at Cheltenham and off 146 he would be competitive at the weights.

Trabolgan carried top weight Headstrong, 11st12

An, in what context do you utter the words 'New' and 'Alco' ?!
    I could be the judge!

it's a lot isn't it, over 3.2 miles - no wonder a younger horse usually wins!
It's going to be a helluva race if some of those turn up

Strange that it's still only a Grade 3.

As a handicap, with the full weight range it cannot be afforded a higher grade. As you know, a horse carrying ten stone, and in reciept of masses of weight, as the winner would not usually be worthy of the title grade 2 or grade 1 winner.

Interesting that there have been so few 6 yr old winners historically, yet three of the last four were 6 year olds - and the fourth was a 7 year old

he tends to run very well first time out... then not a lot. maybe this year it will be different.
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

As long as New Alco doesnt need it like Aces Four he should have a great chance getting lumps from everything!

Murphy 6 winners from 66 runners this season. Only L'Antartique won first time out.

I'm with Eric. Mossbank looked totally reformed last time. I don't know how much he's gone up in the weights after that but he should be rated under 140 which would give him a very obvious chance.

    From Sporting Life..

Hills have priced up the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Newbury with Denman, who won two novice chases at the Berkshire course prior to his SunAlliance Chase win last season, quoted the clear 9/2 favourite.

Hills spokeswoman Jennie Prest said: "The Hennessy is always one of the betting highlights of the year, with the National Hunt season in full swing it is a handicap the punters always get their teeth into.

"Denman is the class horse in the field and looks a strong favourite, but he is sure to have some good quality opposition line up come the December 1.

"Kauto Star’s entry also adds some spice but Paul Nicholls' two stable stars look certain to take different routes to the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March and he has a ‘doubtful’ tag to his 10/1 quote."
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done
