Not a good couple of weeks for Qatar racing alumni as they also list Just the Judge.
A sickener to read in RP that Watcombe Heights collapsed and died after winning at Exeter.
Had that race been run at the pace of the QMCC you would have a point . It wasn’t - he cracked when it was served up to him by Grade 1 chasers.
I think we found out he good he was when UDS ran him into the ground - good but not as good as hyped.
Like Kauto Star and Edredon Bleu ?
Dear old Edredon Bleu- what a great and valiant horse he was and a wonderful jumper of a fence . Difficult to split his QMCC and King George wins . I recall Lord H on here having had a good bet on...
So sorry to read this - commiserations on losing such a star.
Horrible fall very sad looked like he was coming to win the race.
Then again Alleged was ruled out of most of the 1978 season and won the Arc in a canter.
Shame let's hope she can come back.
Only just seen this Ar Mad a very sad loss.
What horrible news about Our Duke - the sky looked the limit after the Irish National - such a gorgeous old fashioned chasing type .
Sorry not to see Cue Card at Sundown . I am far from sure that...
They both suggested that by the time of the GA which is of its nature a hectic race there were sometimes jockeys and trainers who were desperate for a winner and that risks were taken that might not...
:(
Cheltenham is becoming more and more the be all and end all for NH racing- so it is unlikely that the GA will get less dangerous. As for the old reactionary nonsense - included amongst those who...
Grade A arse article from Bruce Millington in the RP whinging about people after timing re the dangerousness of the Grand Annual.
Clearly unfair nonsense - how many of the people being asked for...
This isn't the Breeders Cup for heaven's sake . The CGC would never be the last race for the reasons reet identifies. After the 2008 gales blew away the Wednesday card for some reason Edward...
Yes I don't remember jockeys riding madly when the County Hurdle was the last race of the meeting as it was traditionally until 2009.
Apparently, Alastair Down also calling for the Grand Annual to be moved.
Interesting that both Nico de B and Lizzie Kelly wondered whether the Grand Annual was the right race to have as the get out stakes ? I would promote the Martin Pipe up the card and return the County...
I am afraid that I disagree - the fall of North Hall Harvey appeared to be entirely due to the slippery nature of the churned up landing after the two earlier chases.
I think that was 1998 and there was a lot of comment about the grass coverage before the meeting. I understood Cheltenham did take some steps after that.
BBC reporting that Some Plan also a fatality - very serious questions to answer now as to why they did not abandon before the Grand Annual.
Sorry to hear that .
