On this day 1989, Peter Scudamore became the third National Hunt jockey, after Stan Mellor and John Francome, to ride 1,000 winners.

Appropriately enough " I Gotta Horse!" Raz Prince Monolulu died on this day in 1965.
His headdress is often seen in old racing footage. A feature of big race meetings the Listowel Race Committee brought him over for the Harvest Festival in 1957 and 58 where he fitted in well with The Wren Boys! As we say "aithnionn ciarog ciarog eile ".
Does anyone here remember seeing him at ate races ?

On this day in 1992, Carvill's Hill justified odds-on favouritism to run away with the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown.

On this day in 1990, British raider Nick The Brief beat odds-on favourite Carvill's Hill in the Vincent O'Brien Gold Cup at Leopardstown.
It's no wonder Carvill's was beaten on Feb 17 after running away with the same race just the day before. :blink:

On this day in 1967 Hill House won the Schweppes and Schhhh you know what happened!
Disqualification loomed until a 171 day inquiry found the horse produced high cortisone levels.Ryan Price reckoned his legal fees were 10K.
The horse never won again!
