The first win of many.

“ JONBON, a brother to the top class hurdler/chaser Douvan, was making his much anticipated rules debut after winning his sole start in an Irish point and he didn't disappoint. Although on his toes in the preliminaries, he went about his job professionally and he only had to be nudged out to draw clear in the latter stages. He clearly has all the right credentials to go to the very top.” Racing Post

JONBON, who wore earplugs throughout, was on his toes at the start but produced a hurdling debut that suggests he could be a bit special. The pace was uneven early and he made his way to the front at the third before jumping neatly, with speed, to beat some rivals who had really strong bumper form. His odds for the Supreme Novices' were slashed, with him made favourite in most books. It's still early days so maybe that's overreaction, but this was impressive and the stable had taken this contest four times since 2014, most notably with Buveur D'Air.

JONBON was quite relaxed beforehand and settled well in the race. He went on to treat a quality field with disdain, winding up what had been a very steady tempo from halfway and winning with a considerable amount up his sleeve. As with his hurdles debut at Newbury the bare time isn't going up to back up the impression he created, but on both occasions the field crawled through the early stages. His position as market leader for Supreme Novice rightly hardened after this polished display, and given the easy races he's had so far it would make sense to get him out again before the big day.
