I was hanging my head in shame as I was writing it, Col.

In mitigation, it only happens when Brigadoon appears, and a few on here will have seen the betting slip.

Still, no excuse - won't happen again.

They team up in the Bumper.

Scarlet Dragon going in my tracker. He pulled so hard today but has still seen off the rest with some ease. The winner looks very smart and had already gone by the time Hutchinson made his move.

Mild? You put one up, it finishes second - and then you casually mention you had the forecast... how the **** is that mild?!

    Well done all the same.

This is the man who went on a 6 month quest to convince everyone Vautour would win the Gold Cup but secretly backed him for the Ryanair.

    He has no moral compass

Mild as in at least I’d put the second up when he was a 20/1 chance.

    Still no excuse.

Nice of you to come out of the woodwork to have a go though, you ba*stard! Hardhibald payback?

    1. I backed Vautour for the Ryanair around one week before he was due to take part in the Gold Cup. It was on the strength of one thing, and one thing only. Thomas Mullins said with 100% certainty at a Preview Night that the horse would not go in the Gold Cup. It was sufficiently convincing that I was compelled to have a saver, just in case WPM and RR turned out to be full of sh*it. Rest assured, I would happily have forgone the winnings, just to have seen the horse contest the Gold Cup.

    2. These are merely two concrete pieces of evidence of my total lack of a moral compass, and are somewhat piffling examples at that, when the full spectrum of misdemeanours is accounted for.

    Still unacceptable...

On a related note (and also brought back by TheBear's immaculate avatar), it's hard to believe it was 10 years ago we were discussing Harchi vs. Osana in the Champion on TRF... how time flies.

Most of my waywardness relates to lifestyle choices rather than horse-racing......and even that previous exuberance and joie de vivre has been tempered (to a degree) since I hit 50yo last month.

I’ve probably known Colin for 15 years or so through racing forums (first TRF and then here), and whilst this might not be the first time I’ve after-timed, I’d say there been less than half-dozen instances of it happening, in all that time I’ve known him. I stil can’t quite believe I did it, and feel a bit of a dope for doing so, I have to say.

C’est la guerre. Can’t wind the clock back now.

Wasn’t it on uk.racing newsgroup with Hugh Taylor and the inimitable Denis Lindridge - I never did get to Denis’s wedding.

If it’s any consolation, you don’t come across as any more/less dribbly now, than you did 15 years ago.
