    The Ryanair Chase thread 2018

Clonmel Chase on Thursday, a few likely Ryanair types entered in it. For me of course, I wanna see Champagne West come back to his very best, as I haven't given up hope that he's a good horse when there's soft ground about. Whether he will end up in The Ryanair next March, or even at The Festival, after he was quite comprehensively put in his place in The Gold Cup last season, I don't really know. But anyways...

    Dare i say Disko

    Poor Meade if it is
Some people say he’s the best since Arkle and that’s certainly true when you look at what he’s done

Champagne West too much of a dour stayer for this race, and wouldn't be able to go the pace, I reckon. He was PU'd in Vautour's Ryanair fully a mile from home.

I've no idea why Willie Mullins doesn't just give Yorkhill an orthodox preparation, and have this race as his long-term target - he has exactly the right kind of profile for the race. If he doesn't send Yorkhill, and he has Douvan and/or Great Field for the QMCC, then I could easily see Min step-up in trip, and win this.

O'Leary won't ask Meade to run Disko and R2R in this. My guess is the former is a Gold Cup contender.

I've backed Top Notch and Coney Island who are both overs. The former jumped beautifully in the jlt last season aside from the last.

Douvan, avoid Altior, won't risk the Gold Cup, where else does he go?

I don't think they will be looking to avoid Altior with Douvan, if he anything like his old self.

Ryanair is all about those who don't stay the Gold Cup trip, aren't quite quick enough to win a 2 mile Champion Chase and a desperate act for 2 milers that are out of form and the odd actual 2 1/2m horse.

The ones I can see turning up are Min, Fox Norton, Top Notch, Disko Politologue Cloudy Dream and UDS. Others like Smad Place and Cue Card who are no longer serious Gold Cup horses could end up here.

Right now it's hard to argue with Fox Norton being at the head of the market

Not sure about this. Champagne has form over 2.5 miles, like most good horses, he can go different distances. I'm confident he will go close on Thursday, if there's soft ground. No idea about future targets, though.

He's too small and nippy though. He'd be 50/1 just to get around the national fences at Aintree. Maybe they'll have a go at Fairyhouse but they won't waste a season waiting for that, too many races to be won before then.

Forecast soft to heavy ground, Champagne five pound ahead on the ratings, receiving 1 pound from a couple of rivals. A fairly straightforward task me thinks.

Probably not as easy as I first thought. He has to give four pounds to Balko, so we'll just have to see what happens.

I think it's between Balko and A Toi Phil, myself..........though acknowledge that's not going to be filed under 'stunning insight'.

Watching that felt like a 'horses can make mugs of us race!". Thank goodness I didn't have a penny on Champagne, as I wasn't feeling it. He looks utterly gone at the game, and wouldnt have won at any distance. Hope someone did the winner.

Delighted to see no entry for Great Field. Not that I was expecting one, but you can never tell with WPM, and this basically mwans a QMCC run is definite, if GF makes it to the Festival.
