Glen Valley looked small and weak, certainly weak in the market and didn't manage to beat one home.

First season sires RED JAZZ (Jedi Master) and SWISS SPIRIT (Kick On Kick On) have their first runners in the Leicester 2.00. The former is a first foal of a Distorted Humor mare and the latter is out of a Piccolo mare and is a half-brother to Firecruise a winner of two races late in his 2-y-o career.

There are four FSS with runners in the first (5.55) at Dundalk this evening.

RED JAZZ has Ragtime Red, his mam (a daughter of Piccolo) has already produced four winners albeit of moderate ability.

SWISS SPIRIT is represented by Spirit Power, he's out of a Woodman mare and is a half-brother to a 2-y-o winner

EPAULETTE has his first runner with Lady Epaulette, the first foal of a Motivator mare.

My Silver Nails, by TOUGH AS NAILS, is having his second outing having shown some ability at Naas on debut.

Bit of a slow start so far, given the good ground was expecting a few more out of the traps. Cheers Colin.

Kick On Kick On became SWISS SPIRIT's first winner when convincingly winning the first at Leicester yesterday. His other runner, Spirit Power, ran second at Dundalk, so quite a promising start.

There are no FSS runners in today's only 2-y-o race, Wolverhampton 7.20, where Campion may open Hannon's account for the season.

On Saturday, Hannon's Campion was made favourite but after racing prominently weakened quickly inside the last.

At Naas yesterday, FSS RECKLESS ABANDON was represented by Guess The Bill who almost got up to beat the well-backed T For Tango. RECKLESS ABANDON proved to be sub-fertile at stud and he only has this year's crop running for him. on yesterday's evidence that seems a shame. Aidan O'Brien had his first 2-y-o runner in this, well-bred as you'd expect and ran third, sure to come on for the run and perhaps five is too short for him.

    First Season Sire runners today:

    Windsor 2.00

DECLARATION OF WAR - Declarationoflove is the first foal of a Royal Applause mare.

LETHAL FORCE - Lethal Lunch, out of a Pivotal mare, is a half-brother to two winners, both won as 2-y-os.

MAZAMEER - Milton Road, the sire was a useful French sprinter, is a half-brother to Interchoice Star, who didn't start winning until he was five but won seven races on the all-weather albeit at a pretty moderate level.

SOCIETY ROCK - Rock Of Estonia, out of an Exceed And Excel mare is a half-brother to Tallinski, placed twice in early season 5f. novice races.

    Redcar 2.20

MOST IMPROVED - Just For The Craic, out of a Fasiliyev mare, is an already gelded half-brother to Machete Mark a winner over 7 & 8f. in Ireland.

SOCIETY ROCK - Rockin Fella, out of a Forzando mare, is a half-brother to three winners including Excel Bolt (RPR 101) winner of his first two races as a 2-y-o.

RED JAZZ - Ventura Gold is the first foal of a Green Desert mare.

Only one 2-y-o race today Lingfield 3.00

    First Season Sire runners:

SOCIETY ROCK - Corinthia Knight, out of a Grand Lodge mare, half-brother to two winners, one of them, Chiswick Bay (best RPR 95) won two races as a 2-y-o.

HAVANA GOLD - Our Man In Havana, out of an Acclamation mare whose only other produce won a 5f. 0-60 at Newcastle earlier this year.

Corinthia Knight a convincing winner for SOCIETY ROCK at Lingfield this afternoon. Margin of victory probably exaggerated as the favourite, Black Orange, seemed to set too strong a pace and didn't get home.

Only one 2-y-o race today, the Dundalk 5.25.

And only one first season sire represented in that, Mister Magic is by RED JAZZ out of a One Cool Cat mare. The mare has produced two winners, one of them achieved a RPR high of 92 when racing in Italy and won as a 2-y-o.

Only five runners but three of them trained by an O'Brien and they could be decent.

An expert opinion on FSS found on Thoroughbred Daily News:

    FIRST-SEASON SIRES IN THE SPOTLIGHT:

    by Emma Berry
Emma Berry profiles the Irish-based sires with first runners in2017.
CAMELOT (GB), 2009, CoolmoreMontjeu (Ire)--Tarfah, by Kingmambo
The horse who was so nearly the first Triple Crown winner in45 years went unbeaten from his July debut at two right throughto his narrow defeat in the G1 St Leger, cramming into those 14months Group 1 victories in the Racing Post Trophy, 2000Guineas, Derby and Irish Derby.

Camelot underwent colic surgery just days after his firstunplaced run, when seventh in the G1 Prix de l=Arc de Triomphe, and returned the following May to win the G3 Mooresbridge S.He ran only twice more at four, finishing second to Al Kazeem(GB) in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and fourth behind him in theG1 Prince Of Wales's S.
An elegant individual very much in the mould of his sireMontjeu, Camelot appears to have imparted that presence tohis offspring, who found widespread favour at the yearling sales.Whether or not he has also imbued them with his abilityremains to be seen, but he won't lack opportunity to provehimself, even though his chances for that are more likely tocome later this season and beyond.
Among his 151 2-year-olds, eight of which are thus far listed asin training with Aidan O'Brien, are siblings to Fame And Glory(GB) and the 22-time Grade 1-winning hurdler Hurricane Fly(Ire)--both of whom are by Montjeu--as well as top-class juvenileDabirsim (Fr) and Irish Oaks winner Bracelet (Ire). Twenty-ninehold entries for next year's Derby.
    Camelot | Coolmore
DAWN APPROACH (IRE), 2010, Darley, Kildangan StudNew Approach (Ire)--Hymn Of The Dawn, by Phone Trick
Jim Bolger's masterplan to make the bloodstock world sit upand pay attention to New Approach in his first season withrunners probably went something along the lines of 'win thefirst juvenile race of the season with one of his offspring whowill then emulate his sire by remaining unbeaten all year tobecome European champion 2-year-old'. If that was indeed thecase, it was a job well done.
Dawn Approach went one better than his sire by winning theG1 2000 Guineas, but the question of whether he would see outthe Derby trip went unanswered as he fly-leaped his way throughthe first few furlongs and ultimately tailed off to finish last.

GOFFS UK BREEZE UP SALE OUTS
    2, 7, 10, 16, 19, 49, 67, 83, 86, 103, 131, 142, 146, 148, 149

First-Season Sires in the Spotlight: Ireland Cont
Never tried beyond a mile again, he was back on song wheneyeballing Toronado (Ire) out of victory in the G1 St James'sPalace S. before narrowly succumbing to that rival in a
    G1 Sussex S. rematch.

Bolger is listed as breeder or co-breeder of eight of the 113Dawn Approach 2-year-olds, including Come At Dawn (Ire), ahalf-sister to dual listed winner Paene Magnus (Ire) (Teofilo{Ire}). Other well-related individuals include Vlatka (Ire), ahalf-sister to Sunday's G3 Prix Sigy winner Fas (Ire) (Fastnet Rock{Ire}), Tawheed, a half-brother to Makfi (GB) in training withRoger Varian, and Fajjaj (Ire), a colt out of a half-sister toKingman (GB) with Hugo Palmer.
Dawn Approach's most expensive yearling was a bold180,000gns to 275,000gns foal-to-yearling pinook by PhilippStauffenberg. That colt is now named Nahham (Ire) and is beingtrained by Richard Hannon for Al Shaqab Racing.
EPAULETTE (AUS), 2009, Darley, Kildangan StudCommands (Aus)--Accessories (GB), by Singspiel (Ire)
Epaulette is in the dangerous territory of being expected bymany to make a similarly explosive start to his stud career as hishalf-brother Helmet (Aus) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}). Bothbrothers are by Danehill stallions who have been champions inAustralia. Though, during his short stint as a shuttle stallion,Commands never clicked with the European broodmare band tothe same degree as Exceed And Excel.
Helmet had the edge as a racehorse but Epaulette was noslouch. Runner-up in the G2 Todman S. after winning twice attwo, he claimed two Group 1 wins at three, both over 1400m,finished second to Black Caviar (Aus) in the 1200m G1 TJ SmithS., and was third in a strong renewal of the G1 Caulfield Guineasbehind All Too Hard (Aus) and Pierro (Aus).

First-Season Sires in the Spotlight: Ireland Cont.
His first foals were popular with pinhookers and 87 of hisyearlings went through the ring for an average of 30,584gns,with a filly now named Verve (Ire) and in Hugo Palmer's stabletopping the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale at i150,000. Ofthe 102 juveniles who could do battle for him this year, twohave already faced the starter, with Fas Le Fios (Ire) entered torun again at Newcastle on Friday. Five 2-year-olds will go underthe hammer today at the Goffs UK Breeze-up Sale.
MOST IMPROVED (IRE), 2009, CoolmoreLawman (Fr)--Tonnara (Ire), by Linamix (Fr)
Third to Parish Hall (Ire) in the G1 Dewhurst S. after winning aNewmarket maiden at two, the highlight of Most Improved'sClassic season was winning the G1 St James's Palace S., but thehalf-brother to dual Group/Grade 1 winner Ectot (Ire)(Hurricane Run {Ire}), who switched from Brian Meehan's yardto Ballydoyle for two runs at four, could never quite recapturethat form. Fifty-two of his yearlings were sold for an average of15,845gns and he potentially has 71 to run for him this year, including a half-sister to the listed-placed Sagaciously (Ire)(Lawman {Fr}), who has followed her sibling to Ed Dunlop'sstable.
Mocklershill, which supplied the top lot at last week's AscotBreeze-up, offers a Most Improved colt at the Goffs UK saletoday

following spring gave Red Jazz his first stakes success and hewent on to finish third to Poet's Voice (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in theG1 Queen Elizabeth S. before claiming a group win of his own inthe G2 Challenge S. at Newmarket over seven furlongs.
Of his 101 2-year-olds, 77 went through the ring as yearlings, with Angus Gold securing the most expensive--a colt namedMutanaaseq (Ire) in training with Richard Hannon--for125,000gns on behalf of Shadwell.
We'll start to see Wedmesday how he fares in the breeze-upmarket as five are offered for sale at Doncaster.
SOCIETY ROCK (IRE), 2007, Tally-Ho Stud (died in 2016)Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire)--High Society (Ire), by Key Of Luck
We've already had a glimpse of Society Rock's promise as asire, with two of his first four runners having won and anotherbeing placed to make him the current leading freshman. Anysuccess this year will be bittersweet as the near-black sprinterwas lost to laminitis last May at the age of only nine.
He won twice at two himself without setting the racing worldalight, and started to creep into the wider consciousness with alisted win at three, coaxed patiently by his trainer JamesFanshawe. That patience was rewarded when, at four, SocietyRock won the G1 Golden Jubilee S. and was second to MoonlightCloud (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the G1 Prix Maurice deGheest. He landed another big prize the following year whenholding off Gordon Lord Byron (Ire) (Byron {GB}) in the
G1 Haydock Sprint Cup and, kept in training at six, ran only threetimes for victory in the G2 Duke Of York S. and runner-upfinishes to Lethal Force (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the DiamondJubilee and the G1 July Cup.
Society Rock wasn't a particularly imposing individual butplenty of his yearlings looked strong and racy, the 103 soldreturning an average of 28,342gns. There are eight chancesWednesday to buy one of his juveniles at Doncaster, includingthe Tally-Ho Stud-consigned half-sister to Ardad (Ire) (Kodiac{Ire}) , who was the joint-top price at last year's sale andwent on to win the Listed Windsor Castle S. and G2 FlyingChilders S.
TOUGH AS NAILS (IRE), 2009, Old Meadow StudDark Angel (Ire)--Soreze (Ire), by Gallic League (GB)
Tough As Nails had the distinction of being the first runner forhis now hugely popular sire Dark Angel and he passed the postin front on his March debut only to lose the race in the stewards'room. He atoned by winning and keeping the race less than amonth later and, though that was his final victory, he posteddecent performances in defeat, finishing second in the G2Railway S. and third in the G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. during abusy juvenile campaign.

RED JAZZ, 2007, Ballyhane StudJohannesburg--Now That's Jazz, by Sword Dance
Sharing his sire with the late but hugely successful Scat Daddycan't have hurt Red Jazz's profile in the eyes of commercialbreeders. He ran 32 times over five seasons, winning on debutat two as early as Apr. 6 and later that season finishing third inthe G2 July S. Victory in the European Free Handicap the

First-Season Sires in the Spotlight: Ireland Cont.
He was seen out just twice at three and later retired to DeclanWeld's Old Meadow Stud for a fee of i3,000, covering 29 maresin his debut season.
Of his 14 registered 2-year-olds, My Silver Nails (Ire) has beenready to run as early as his sire and has already made two startsfor Michael Mulvany. Keith Dalgleish trains Weatherbys SuperSprint entry Tough Remedy (Ire).
WORTHADD (IRE), 2007, Irish National StudDubawi (Ire)--Wigman, by Rahy
In theory, it helps a stallion's chances if he has a decentnumber of first-crop representatives, but there have beenplenty of examples of early recognition being short-lived and anumber of others where a stallion has outperformed theopportunity afforded him.
That will certainly be the Irish National Stud's hope forWorthadd, who has only 19 first-crop 2-year-olds. However, hehas already had a breakthrough by supplying the top lot at lastweek's Ascot Breeze-up Sale with a ,130,000 colt out ofMalayan Mist (Ire), who has joined the stable of John Quinn forAl Shaqab Racing. Mayfield Stables offers another of his colts, out of the juvenile winner Matula (Ire) (Halling), as lot 47 at Goffs UK's breeze-up today, while a pair of his fillies havealready made their way to the Newmarket stables of CharlieMcBride and Tom Clover.
Worthadd himself spent some time in Newmarket within astone's throw of those two yards at Sir Mark Prescott's HeathHouse, but only after earning a lofty reputation in Italy, wherehe won eight races for Vittorio Caruso. They included the
G2 Derby Italiano and another pair of Group 2 contests over a mile.He later won the G3 Badener Meile after switching to Prescott.
Worthadd covered a bigger book of 41 mares in 2016, up from27 in 2014 and 16 in 2015.

Sorry about the format but I think the text is worth the effort of reading.

You could of course go to the TDN website!

Did anyone see that race at Dundalk?

Just seen it the once but if I had been a backer of Dali I think I would be asking Heffernan about his finishing effort.

It's left a bit of a taste in my mouth.

There are two 2-y-o races today:

    Newcastle 1.50

Two first season sires with runners -

EPAULETTE - Fas Le Fios, out of a King's Best mare and half-sister to two winners the better of them Paddy's Motorbike who acheived his best RPR when second in a class 2 12f. handicap at Newmarket.

DECLARATION OF WAR - Peace Prevails is out of a Consolidator? mare whose previous foal won an 8f. nursery at Newcastle, last November, off a mark of 63.

There are no FSS runners in the Bath 5.00. David Evans' Last Page made a very encouraging debut in the Brocklesby, finishing a very close second after showing greenness from the stalls.

Only one first season sire runner today.

    Musselburgh 4.05

SOCIETY ROCK has Rockin Fella here, he is having his second run after finishing a promising close-up third at Redcar two weeks ago.

He'll need to go some to beat Requinto Dawn, who looked pretty smart when taking a division of the Brocklesby.

Looks a nice little race with the forecast quick ground
RD looked smart and Fahey has a good record here but I've had a dabble on Washeek, nicely bred as you say Col and Mark Johnstone was out of the traps fast with his juveniles last season.
