The Legend of Istabraq (2000) by Michael Clower (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Ista...michael+clower)

I also have a SIGNED copy of Lester's autobiography (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lester-Auto...ggot+biography) which I would like to keep as a pair with a signed print (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lester-sig...-/391137464963 - this isnt my sale just showing the print) but if there was a good offer might be tempted to part with them.

If no takers, no offence - will donate them to the local charity shop

PLEASE NO COMMENTS ABOUT THE BOOKS WHICH WILL TURN THIS THREAD INTO A SLA-NG-ING MATCH!

If you don't get any takers on here, there is a Facebook page called Horse Racing Nostalgia - I would imagine they'd be pretty popular on there.

Ballydoyle has posted on another topic on some of the negatives that impacted on her in 2016. Despite this she was an absolute topper in getting these books to me efficiently and uncomplicatedly. Thanks BD.

Now a general appeal. I am trying to build an extensive collection of horse racing books. I have around 100, want to double this. If you need to divest yourselves of any can you PM me and I'll arrange the rest.

I'll speak to G & L. They might give me permission to offer you the Timeform Flat 1971/1972 annuals, if you're interested.

Also, I've no shortage of racing books I wouldn't mind seeing go to a deserving home.

I'll do an inventory and email it to you. You can pick & choose anything of interest.

I also have official form books, flat & NH, going back to the 80s, maybe even the late 70s. Many will have my own annotations scribbled on them, which might put you off, just saying so in terms of honesty.

Mrs O wanted them for my funeral pyre so she and Orchidette could dance around it when the day comes so if I can thwart them...

Thanks Mo. I am more interested in the 'literary story telling books' rather than the technical form manuals. Let me know if you have an excess and we can arrange some Glasgow logistics/drop zone to pick em up. I am next over around Jan 20th I think.

Anyone having a first edition (hardback) of A Long Time Gone by Chris Pitt hang on to it, all versions now out of print and going for up to £370 on Amazon although still some at lesser prices if you hunt around online. Certainly one to pick up if you see in a charity bookshop or car boot anywhere.

Found the most amazing second hand book shop today in a part of Cheltenham I rarely visit, has an incredible amount of second hand books on racing including Chasers and Hurdlers (some in their leather cases) Timeform Annuals, and just about every other racing book excep[ for the one mentioned in my post above. Also plenty of football and cricket books, Wisden Annuals etc galore.

If anyone's looking for something specific, I'll go take a look, there is no website.

Just finished an autobiography by Declan Murphy called Centaur. Was living abroad when he was in his pomp so missed his career. Nasty fall and injury in the Swinton. Anybody have strong views on him?

Declan Murphy was in his pomp when I first started watching racing in the early '90s, Colm, and was widely-regarded as one of the most stylish jockeys around. Think Norman Williamson at his best, and you wouldn't be a million miles out - though Stormin' was probably a little stronger in a finish.

It was touted (in some more cynical circles) at the time, that his comeback ride was gift-wrapped, and handed to him on a plate by his peers. If his recent press is anything to go by, this seems forgivable, as it seems he was wholly ill-prepared to ride in a race, and I suspect his opponents probably realised this (though, naturally, nothing was said at the time).

It was a long while ago, and as I say, I hadn't been watching racing for very long, but I think he used to ride a fair bit for Mrs Pitman and possibly Tim Forster......though others with longer memories might need to correct that.

Used to ride for Josh Gifford, won the 1993 Mackeson Gold Cup on Bradbury Star after suffering a heavy fall in the previous race I recall. Also remember Josh sent down three horses for an evening meeting at Newton Abbot one Summer, first time Josh had sent horses there, and they landed a long price treble.

I recall that there was a smell of 'guilt by association' about him due to the alleged antics of his trainer, Barney. Is this me mis-remembering or was there something there?
