Things were better this year, I thought. It seemed easier to get around and some of the worst congestion points had been dealt with.

If I took anyone out with the pram when I went through the Guinness village this year I'm nearly sorry ( but it was funny!) can promise I won't be doing that again next year.....

I agree about the Friday; we now always go on the Tuesday and love watching the horse boxes arrive and seeing the Irish horses coming back from morning exercise. Having said that, even if you don't get to actually see much, it's good to just 'be there' on Gold Cup day, as the feeling will stay with you afterwards. Mind you, we used to go when the Gold Cup had the stayers race beforehand. We always watch the races on the screen by the paddock so we can run over and clap the horses back in, and also stand by the walkway so we can see them walking into the paddock from the pre parade ring.

The Friday thing about being "flat" after Gold Cup can be an advantage: you get to enjoy the last few races without the crowds
