Very good Trudi.
Is there a betting angle on this election. Cameron can't possibly win a majority, and if he doesn't the most likely result is a Labour minority government propped up by that horrible Sturgeon woman.
As such I think Coral's 6/4 about Ed to be PM after the election is great value. It also serves as something of a hedge - my bet will pay for me to get out of this country, because if Labour get in the place will go to the dogs.

God knows. Im amazed it's not been mentioned already ( unless it has on a thread with way too many foot long posts for me to bother with)
It's certainly the most open one I can remember - I really hope your scenario doesn't happen

Here's the latest piece of revolting legislation from the "coalition" I've discovered (they managed to do this quite quietly).
Unless you are a well paid manager, you, essentially, cannot bring an unfair dismissal claim anymore. Regardless of whether it's blatantly illegal or not due to the new legislation designed to protect businesses.
This election is still being fought on its 2010 boundaries. These you'll recall are felt to favour Labour by about 20 seats. I wonder how clever Cameron will feel (or perhaps more pointedly, his backbenchers) should he fail by 10 seats?
You might recall that half way through this administration the conservatives reneged (or slippery eeled their way round with forked tongues) the coalition agreement about reforming the House of Lords in order to defend their in-built majority and look after good old boys like Lord Dusty Do Dah. The Liberals retaliated by withdrawing their support for the conservatives wish to reform the electoral boundaries. It seemed at the time like a massive strategic error by Cameron. It seems to have been forgotten though
Personally I tend to think that Conseravtives will sneak a small overall majority, with many of the undecideds breaking their way on the day. It'll be borderline however as to whether they can form a functioning administration, and with a referendum on Europe scheduled they'll almost certainly degenerate into internecine warfare.
I wouldn't rule out a Wilson 1974 type of thing with Cameron going back to the country within 12 months
One of the things that came out of last nights bore fest which hasn't really been picked up on was Miliband pretty well ruling out a referendum. Previously he'd adopted a sort of qualified position that left the option open. You have to suspect that this is an attempt to appease the nationalists and the Liberals
The SNP can easily reconcile that Scotland's interest are best served by keeping the Tories, or even worse, the Tories with UKIP, out of government, and they should therefore be able to justify participation in a coalition without making independence a condition if Cameron says he could otherwise form a government. The Liberals couldn't possibly be part of a coalition that involved UKIP, so the Tories can only form a two party coalition (plus the unionist parties)
Mind you, there is the alternative view of course which is that if independence is the end game for them, then the continued re-election of conservative governments intoxicated on reconditioned Thatcherism is the best recruiting sergeant they could ask for. Tricky one for them.

Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly. _ Harry Limes
I didn't watch any of this I'm afraid but, having heard a blow by blow account from the S.O. I'm confused by the SNP. Why are they still harping on about being independant; they want to split from England because they don't feel they are fairly represented but, by the same token they are totally ignoring the majority decision by the Scottish people and just carry on talking about having another vote. You can't just lose a vote and keep having more votes till you get the right result [or can you?]. Had the vote been for independance they wouldn't be talking about 'when we rejoin the rest of Britain would they?
That just told me to vote Labour....

I got given "weak liberal democrat"
Pathetic or what
I couldn't tell you the last time I voted Labour? I'm guessing 1987.
It's basically a reworking of an American political compass model which is about 20 years old + (it's called the 'political compass'). It always throws up some interesting insights (the general shift to the right across western nations being the most obvious over the time frame it's been in operation - albeit that's more akin to a squeeze on the one time left - which itself doesn't exist). More locally it usually highlights the difference between nature and nurture, as what it seems to show is that people group conform to the area that they've been brought up in/ or the people they're surrounded by, even if under some control questions their natural inclination should point to another behaviour
FWIW, I actually am considering voting Labour this year, and since I'm in a marginal (not as convinced it's as marginal as Michael Ashcroft thinks myself) my vote should count (or so we're told of course). The Tories would have won our seat last time had they found a half electable candidate. They started off odds on, but the candidate was a deeply unpleasent individual (some conservatives activists voted Labour because they knew their own candidate too well). It beggars belief that the party couldn't weed these candidates out to be honest. Gradually as the campaign unfolded his nastiness became more and more, public and apparent and Labour sneaked it
In Poole Trudi, they could call the result now and save everyone a whole lot of money. You could simply say "the Tories won, but we don't know by how much, but then that doesn't matter"
Anyway, here's my compass result.
It suggested the 'Greens' were my best fit, closely followed by Labour, but there was a high negative score against the Tories, albeit rather worryingly, not as high as UKIP's

I'm towards the bottom right on the compass - economically right but socially liberal.
For the record I'll be voting Conservative as they are the only party able to be trusted not to fcuk the economy up.

They won't fook it up for those with money is more like it Benny.
The tories have an advantage going into this as they jumped on a sinking ship and stopped it sinkling to the bottom..its still submerged like ..but if you "drown" enough poor people it will come to the top soon.
I doubt any one party is ever going to be capable of holding power alone for many years to come..just becaue we won't dare let one party have their way and have a collapse again
I don't know why labour+tories don't just join together and sort out the mess in a fair way instead of just taking from the minion to pay back what the rich gamblers lost
I watched some of that Tory fund raising night..people there bidding for items and paying 200k..making jokes about people on benefits...obscene to watch....whilst the rich have that sort of value set wtf chance is there for ordinary Joe?
How anyone could watch that and then go and vote for them is way beyond my understanding tbh....they don't want power to distribute wealth to all..they want it to distribute to the 20% that fill these auction nights up.
We get adverts on telly asking for us to give 2 quid a month to charities...and there are some knobs paying 200k for some worthless item at a tory auction.....something is upside down really imo?
I applaud people who have earned their wealth..but the way they use it in general i find immoral when so much more could be done with money that could actually reward a decent person with satisfaction ..so many worthy causes and uses...rather than just being a greedy uncaring b@stard which seems to be the general ethos of the tory party
Each generation they manage to kid the uninitiated 20/30 year olds to vote for them...people who have never suffered under them before..its the only way they can get in..if everyone voting had lived under the tories in the 80's they would never see power again.

I was struck by two BBC headlines yesterday
Labour to unveil plans for 150,000 new homes
Tories to stop Internet Porn
The idea that the Tory party are our moral guardians regarding sexual deviance, is in itself quite amusing, but it struck me that they'd run out of ideas if this was the best they could come up with, and have settled instead for the new political cult of managerlism (something Blair did after about 2 years). Much as though my own MP has struggled to answer a few questions from me about why it's taken a five years in opposition for them to recognise the issue of housing when they had 11 years to do something about it, doesn't fill me with much hope. Hazel Blears was probably more informative when she said that non one in the senior ranks of the Labour came from a housing background, no one was affected by it, and no one was therefore interested in it.

It amazes me every election how they manage to persuade people who they are sworn to **** in the ass, to vote for them. They don't even hide the fact that they intend to **** them in the ass.
Which probably proves the First Basic Law of Human Stupidity - Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.
