Not sure if there is a more recent thread but hope we saw the winner today at Limerick in Burning Ambition.

Pierce the trainer is a friend of mine from school days , is a cousin of puppy, bred new to this town and had play the Ace before it was sold on to our own Roddy

Cheers Granger. I saw him win super easy yesterday and always nice to read a bit of the back story

Very good performance and know plenty who thought he was passed the post before the race had begun.

Word of warning though Granger in that he didn't beat much yesterday and though he's qualified for Cheltenham there are a heck of a lot of horses qualified for the big race and generally it takes a rating in the low 130's to get a run. The handicapper's have a bit of scope to allow a couple of wildcard's and sure he'd be line for one of those but would be hoping that something decent turns up at Gowran Park or wherever he goes next as can't see him being rated more than 122 for yesterday's success.

Punchestown maybe Martin. Was hoping he would be a bit better price yesterday. He arrived home safe at least and their dream is still alive.

Cheers Granger - think the price thing was wishful thinking sadly.

Even if the compilers don't have a clue (they didn't have much yesterday judged on the early prices) he was never going to be much bigger than the 4/5 opening show sadly.

Killultagh Vic appears to be getting a few entries. An obvious one for the Foxhunters if he comes back in any form. But would he have time to qualify? and i assume he'd have to move trainer again?

He'd struggle to qualify I think - this time around he#d need two Hunter Chase places or two Open P2P wins or an Open P2P win and a HC place.

He was at David Christie's and being targeted at the race from what I remember but they've moved him back to WPM's so possibly off the agenda now.

McBratney's wasn't it? They decided that he retained enough ability to aim higher than hunter chases. He had fancy Leopardstown entries this week and is also in at Punchestown on Sunday in a hurdle.

We're starting to approach the time where, if I had a long term fancy for this race, I'd be getting a little itchy if they hadn't yet had any qualifying wins or places.

Sorry just seen these posts - looks very open at present.

Burning Ambition lacks the experience of a lot of these and the reason for those who put him up seems to be that he has a similar profile to Cappa Bleu, but then he also has a similar profile to the winner of the Limerick race two or three years ago It Came To Pass and many others.

I'd be keen to see a few more of the hunter chases in the coming weeks before putting my money down - nothing stands out currently.

We'll find out more Punchestown Sunday as it's Gilgamboa (not qualified for Cheltenham) v Burning Ambition...

The hunter chase at Haydock on Saturday has a bonus for any horse that wins and goes on to win at Cheltenham and/or Aintree. Nicholls has Virak entered so presumably high on his list.

I've taken 3/1 Nicholls to have the winner at Cheltenham.

Skybet now going Nicholls 5/1 to have the winner. Seems a very fair price when Wonderful Charm is 6/1 and you get Pacha Du Polder and Virak thrown in.

Agree, and thanks for the heads up Archie. I will avail myself right now.
