    Cheltenham Foxhunter

Looking for advice from Irish Stamp and others but worth pointing out that Prince De Beauchene goes at Thurles tomorrow. At his best he could win doing handsprings but has missed too many targets to go with this early.

Salsify reportedly being aimed at Leopardstown on Hennessy day.

Back Salsify for Cheltenham - Prince De Beauchene's third place at Down Royal in the James Nicholson in November 2013 should mean he's ineligible for all British Hunter Chases in 2015.

Thanks for pointing that out, Martin. Seems ludicrous that the rules aren't uniform either side of the Irish Sea. PdB was priced up with several bookies last night but he's not in the lists now.

Agree on that Archie - personally would rather see conditions chases framed for horses like Prince De Beauchene rather than have them competing against genuine amateurs in Hunter Chases but that's how the rules are framed.

He'll be eligible next year and there are others - spoke about a 150 rated Nicholls horse with a friend last night who's also going to be ineligible (and will be for next year too).

Prince De Beauchene couldn't have won that any easier really - will be interesting to see if they take him to Leopardstown.

Of those listed in the Foxhunters betting only Oscar Barton (looks an improved horse in the past 12 months or so), Salsify (back now), Paint The Clouds (Best of the UK horses at the min) and Two Rockers (class act) have a chance of winning in my opinion. On The Fringe flatters to deceive at Cheltenham, Warne won't run, Vital Plot isn't all that good, Quinz won't run, Carsonstown Boy will struggle to back up last years effort and Harbour Court has wind problems.

I was told that Salsify was due to run in a point-to-point this weekend but he's not entered - latest seems to be that he's heading to the Raymond Smith on Hennessy day at Leopardstown, likely to face Prince De Beauchene and co there.

Tammy's Hill isn't eligible for it this year so definitely not defending his crown.

Cheers Martin. I've backed Salsify the last two years ante post but would like to see him out before doing so this year.

Fair enough, I've not seen much that could challenge those in the list this season.

Theatre Queen seems to be back under rules and has her quirks anyway and her Godstone conqueror Glint Of Steel is unlikely to be out until March so won't be qualified.

Aerial won at Larkhill yesterday for Jack Barber (2 from 2 in p2p's now) and Two Rockers (3 from 3) won at Killeagh today for Adrian Maguire - both useful hurdlers who'll likely appear in the betting sooner rather than later.

Both would benefit greatly from a Hunter Chase win in terms of qualifying I believe - won't be easy for the latter with Warne likely to be at Fairyhouse and Salsify and co at Leopardstown. The only other HC taking place in Ireland in February is on the 5th at Clonmel which is a Maiden event which he wouldn't be qualified for I don't think.

He should be eligible Digger - just needs to qualify via the Hunter Chases and Open P2P's and that should pretty much guarantee his spot in the field given his OR.

Teaforthree entered at Bangor on Friday, as are Calgary Bay and useful Nicholls horse Pacha Du Polder.

Oscar Barton won by 20 at Oldtown today.

Harbour Court scraped home at Milborne St Andrew from **** Of The Rock - HC is currently 10/1 for the Foxhunters, that should be his price to place IMHO.

What do you make of Current Event Martin ?

Would be unbeaten in points but for falling on his debut - since 7/7 - and won well on Hunter Chase debut yesterday.

He has a chance - Cheltenham a very different test to Musselburgh though, would also add that if Briony Frost hadn't taken the glue to Larkhill with her then he'd have at least one U next to his name.

Nice one, cheers - great pics.

I didn't realise until reading this morning's P2P section in the RP that Oscar Barton had a serious rival until that one ran out at the last on Sunday. This years Foxhunters is proving extremely tough to predict at this stage.

I love Salsify but he was lucky a couple of years back and has been out a long time. Whatever I do back though, I'll be having at least a saver on him.

I'm even coming round to thinking that On The Fringe can improve on his past two efforts . He looked to blow up at Down Royal, was attempting to concede 10lb (inc allowance) to Oscar Barton and we know he'll have a decent jockey on board.

    Good looking race Leopardstown Sunday.
All the big ones seem to be entered.
