Now I did check the calender, (and it isn't April the 1st) so I was quite shocked at this news. Now I've never had much time for the so called honours system, but for christ sake, I can't be the only person thinking the same thing?

    How on earth................................etc

I know the BBC periodically refer to Sir Bob Geldof with his honourary title, but I had no idea that the Zimbabwean President was Sir Robert Mugabe Oh christ... you couldn't make this up could you?

I'm sure Mugabe will be mortified anyway
Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly. _ Harry Limes

Isn't he still the King of Scotland or was that the other fella?

I think Amin made that claim, as well as claiming to be heavyweight champion of the world

He isn't a Sir; foreign citizens don't get the style. "Sir" Bob was a misnomer.

This action was way overdue. He defines megalomania.

Are you sure about this, Tony O'Reilly likes to use the 'Sir ' bit. Bugs the ###### out of me the whole title business.

Being born pre-1949, he's allowed to take dual nationality and therefore use the title.

A guy in work asked Paddy Power for a price on him winning the election. He had your one on speaker phone as she asked round the office.

First foreign leader to be stripped of an honourary knighthood since Ceaucescu, both ruined their countries and subjected the citizens to unbelievable brutality yet we only condemn one of them?

    Agree

As vile as he is, hes some way from having been the worst leader out there. Although wrecking the economy is such a manner takes some doing

It is extraordinary that the vast majority of leaders in africa (excpetion Mandela of course and a handful a lesser known ones) have been jaw droppingly useless

Uganda, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leonne, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Equitorial Guinea, Sudan.
    Probably missed a few.
Fine examples of why Sir Bob Geldof et crew should channel their passion into a worthwhile cause.
Just a titbit for you all.
I work where donations can be made to these "causes" and in a majority african community over the last 8 years not ONE person of this ethnic background has donated 1p.
Maybe the benefits aren't enough eh ? shrug::

In fairness, Ceauceascu took a cracking free kick. I'd have him over Dan Pet-Rescue any day :suspect:
