This was a great finish with a short head separating the first 3 and what a performance from Mick Channon having the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Salamanca the winner trained by Sylvester Kirk was having only its second run. The last time i saw a 3 way finish as good as this was the Juddmonte at York with One So Wonderful coming out on top under the god Pat Eddery.

What gets me is that a lot of people seem to think that if you dont have good horses running in races then you wont get an exciting race - a seller can be far more entertaining to watch than a group race - you just need the runners to make it so. I'm glad there are starting to be closer finishes - racing needs good stuff to take peoples minds off the recent things.

Speaking of sellers, fingers crossed Po shows a bit more at Uttoxeter tomorrow.
Do u get disheartened by his failures or do u just get the buzz of having a horse on the racecourse in your colours?
I know Dr Phil is very enthusiastic (after one of his horses beat our syndicate horse in a battle for 4th in a race at Chelters he acted afterwards as if he'd won the Gold Cup).
And yes there were just the five finishers in that race!

I was disappointed for the first time when he ran last time ( at Fontwell ) He is very set in his ideas - he either will or he wont, and theres not a whole lot Oli ( or anyone else before anyone suggests trying a Pro ) can do if he has a not day. He is going to Uttoxeter today in the hope that the wigglyness of the course will keep him interested - there is no right handed racing on a Sunday this month, so to keep him earning ( we get appearence money each time he starts ) and learning, we have to take him left handed. He will retire in the next couple of weeks - we are just keeping him fit so when he goes to his new job ( at the scottish racing academy ) he will be OK. He has had most of this week off - he had a foot abcess at the end of last week, so it will be interesting to see what he thinks of it after a holiday.....
My disappointment was completely unexpected 2 weeks go - there was lots to be pleased with!!! he finished ( which in itself is something to be pleased with!! ) it was left handed, until the 5th he jumped well ( he cut himself at the 5th when he jumped like a twat, and scared himself ) but the thing that was worst is the fact that he threw the towel in - something we thought he had stopped doing when he ran so well ( for him!! ) at Market Rasen.
Yes, Philip is very enthusiastic - we have a new club with two runners today at Plumpton - both should run well. The other horse running at Plumpton will hopefully go well also - he came 5th in a mile flat race last Tuesday and was very very pleased with himself......
Anyway - got to go - we are leaving at 10, and i'm not dressed yet......
and it is not because of him I bought sellers into my argument - I was trying to say that you can have god races whatever calibre of horse you have running....
