The Arc winner runs tomorrow. Some fancy prices on Betfair tonight should be hoovered up, and laid off for free bets tomorrow.

I agree if you refer to a French filly who's name begins with L.

That's one, take Prospect Park and Bago too as three against the field and if you don't have the winner from those three I'll eat my hat!

I'm just disappointed that Doyen won't run PDJ so I won't be able to collect those bets from you.

At this stage, Grey Swallow, Lactice (who I think will stay) and Bago(who I dont know will stay) would be my three for the Arc.....all three year olds!!

Not too sure about Bago but i got the impression it was Prix Niel and then on to the Breeders Cup from the interview the trainer gave (well what i read of it).

Thats true but a good performance tomorrow and I think they might go for the Arc. Especially as the Arc is wide open, now the false favourite is gone.

Good call on Latice PDJ, that's another down for the Arc. Just Prospect Park and Day Flight left now really for me.
A mixed day really, Latice and Bago was disappointing but the first two home in the Niel impressed me. The master has done really well with the winner since the French Derby and looked a real racehorse.

Quiff for the Arc - go on supplement her you know it makes sense

If Quiff won the Arc it would be a disappointing year! Lactice looked a monster up until the final two furlongs. Fancy her to give plenty a beating over 10f.

Why ? I bet she would have the Vermeille in style - what could give the leger a bigger boost ?
Galileo
12th September 2004, 7:43 PM
It took her a long time to pick up yesterday, granted she might have done better on easier, but she would be completely done for speed in my opinion by a good few of these. Looked at the replay of the Champion again and I am really begining to think Weld has the Arc winner on his hands.

They went no pace yesterday and fallon rode her up Rule of Law's arse and then sems to have been surprised that ROL did not stop and thus he did not get a run up the rail - gormless .
Had she got out earlier I reckon she would have won
Galileo

But she didnt pick up like a genuine 1m4f Arc horse should. Arc would be flying much too high.

not on soft ground - albeit I would fancyOuija Board agreat deal more if it were good ground and ran in the Arc rather than tried to beat latice in the l'opera

I agree with Ardross that Quiff would have a great chance of the Arc on soft ground. She is essentially a galloper and soft going would play to her enormous strengths. On better ground she is more vulnerable to something with a real turn of foot. Although I haven't really seen anything with that much of a turn of foot unless it is Sulamani or Grey Swallow.

I dont agree
Quiff has not the tactical speed required to win an Arc,even in soft I would not fancy her.
Grey Swallow is one for the short list ,especially if Dermot left something to work and used the Irish Champion like a trial.
Mubtaker has still a prep to run before.
In really soft ground Shirocco would be interesting.
In good ground Ouija is the one for me after a light campaign.
Interesting to see who will replace Fallon who is going to ride North Light.

Murtagh I imagine unless they go for the L'Opera

Last year's Japan Cup winner Tap Dance City is now to run in the Arc, and will fly to France at the weekend. Memories of El Condor Pasa anyone?

I have said it before. ECP got a brilliant ride on Arc day and damn near nicked it from the front. He gave Montjeu 8 pounds on Arc day   and only lost by half a length with the pair 6 lengths clear of a top Arc field. He never gets the recognition he deserves.

I'd agree with you there. Did he get to sire any foals before his premature death does anyone know?

Good to firm ground or not Day Flight is going to have to improve about a stone and a half in the next two weeks to win the Arc\- disappointing

Sounds like we might see this horse in the St simon rather than the Arc
John Gosden, the trainer of the well-touted Day Flight, reported himself satisfied with the performance of his charge despite a fourth-placed finish.
"He got bumped about three furlongs out and has come back with a couple of cuts on his hind legs, but I'm not sure how much I would read into that," Gosden said.
"He was having his first race for a while and I would say he is probably still quite a mentally immature horse.
"He stays in training next season and in my opinion you won't see the best of him until then."

I wouldn't be too despondent about Day Flight. His French Derby form was never going to be good enough for the Arc. He probably ran close to it today but since he was coming back from a long break he can probably improve on it next time and will be worth looking forward to next year.

Mo WFA were the three letters that came to my mind - Bustino gave Grundy 13lb so what

I know about WFA I had just never realised it happened that day. I had it in my head that ECP was a 3yo.

What is the best way to get from Charles De Gualle to longchamp on Sunday AM? My flight gets in at 9.30 AM.
I need to get back to the Airport directly after the race - how is quickest, and how long?

The Air France bus from CdG to town runs every quarter hour. It tours all the terminals collecting and depositing passengers so journey time is between 30 and 45 minutes but allow extra for any traffic problems. You can get off at Porte Maillot or CdG Etoile (Arc De Triomphe).
I think there's a shuttle bus from Porte Maillot to the track but not certain. In any event, as you should be in town by 11.00 you should have time to get brunch at either place meaning you don't need to eat the overpriced food on course. If there's no shuttle bus at Porte Maillot a cab will only take 10 or 15 minutes as long as you get to the track at least an hour before racing.
After racing (most people will leave after the Arc so be ready for a brisk jog to beat the crowd) you can do the trip in reverse although I'm not sure of cab availability. Airport buses should leave CdG Etoile on the quarter/half hour. If you're really tight for time you may need to try for a cab the whole way. The whole thing depends on how quick you get off course but if you're quick and get a cab straightaway you should do it in less than an hour. If you're slow it could easily take an hour to get back to Porte Maillot (assuming there's a shuttle) and then another hour to the airport.
