View Full Version : Salisbury Off On Friday

Bad luck on the Wiltshire venue to lose the first day of the transferred two-day Ascot meeting on Friday. The incredibly wet August followed by two inches of rain last Sunday was bad enough but showers instead of a dry week have finished off the course.

Saturday's meeting is very much in the balance - inspection Friday am - and it would be very sad to lose a Group 3 from this card.

Would there be any chance of re-staging the Group race somewhere else ? Given the tv rights situation, there may not be anywhere else available though I suppose it could go on a Lingfield card as a single turf race :D

Other group 3's like the Sagaro Stakes have been moved before so there's no reason why the Cornwallis can't - I think they should move it to Newmarket on Saturday week in place of the plodders handicap for bad hurdlers... :D

Starting to wonder about this track - that's the second time this has happened recently and it's a track that is usually well known for being a course where horse liking good / good to firm going usually run. I thought it sat on chalk??

And while we've had some rain, we're only about 60 miles away and we haven't had anywhere near as much as that and we're further west, so usually get far more rain than they do.

Weird...

Its almost as if the incompetents in charge of Ascots ground have been at Salisbury in spirit. Cheyne must be turning on the taps in his sleep!

Yes Salisbury is on chalk as my home is a mile from the course, they have had loads of heavy downpours but no rain since tues morning so saturday might have a chance.

I must say I'd never thought of Salisbury as a course very prone to flooding - but I haven't been there since 1962!

Serves them right for not investing in a very large umbrella.

Saturday off as well - what a shambles - one would have thought they could have made contingency plans for the Autumn Stakes and Cornwallis Stakes

Ardross, I believe the intention is for The Cornwallis to be added to The Champions Day card at Newmarket, though my source is The Racing Post.
