View Full Version : Escorial Racing Raffle (some Great Prizes)
Kathy
16th August 2004, 4:28 PM
For anyone interested, Escorial is running a raffle to be drawn on the 25th September 2004 by Bob Champion himself.
A percentage of the proceeds are for a great cause, and you can pay online via Paypal or just send a cheque to Escorial and he will send you the tickets once the cheque is cleared. Tickets are priced at £2 for one or £10 for 6.
There are about 15 prizes in total, starting with a share for a year in Balmacara as first prize and a day at the races with lunch and £100 spending money as second prize and a signed limited edition print of Bob with Aldiniti as 3rd prize.
Krizon, if you would like a poster to put up at one of "your" many racecourses, I am sure Escorial will be absolutely thrilled, if they would allow you. B) I have just laminated some posters today, so anyone who wants one, please PM me your address and I will send off to you.
I hope some of you will be able to buy a few and perhaps buy a few for your friends too!
Many thanks in advance,
Kathy
PS Escorial is hoping to run a similar raffle in December if this one is a success.

Oh dear, not a great response from this forum. B) Oh well, by sending this message I can at least get it back to the top for a couple of days, just in case anyone missed it!
Oh by the way, Escorial has also taken out a half page advert in The Greatwood Open Day programme. The Open Day takes place at the end of this month for anyone interested. I think Greatwood is a(nother) great cause (although I know a few of you disagree), so if anyone is down that way, it's certainly a great way to spend the afternoon.
Toodle Pip! :P

The Greatwood Open Day in Marlborough starts at 11am tomorrow morning for anyone interested. I will be trying to sell a few raffle tickets while I am there.
Please note that far more than 10% of any profits will be going direct to the Bob Champion Cancer Fund.
The draw is the 25th September for anyone interested and tickets are currently selling like hot cakes!
If anyone wants tickets, please PM me and I will give you my address to send a cheque to, and raffle tickets will be posted to you as soon as your the cheque clears. If you prefer to pay by paypal, there is this facility on Escorial's site although please note that Paypal take 54p for every transaction.
Many thanks :D

Reminder for anyone interested :D
Only 2 weeks to go before the raffle draw takes place - so please dig deep and request your raffle tickets as soon as possible. You can PM me with your details and send cheques to me if you prefer. Please make sure you advise your full name, your address (or just the town) plus most importantly, your telephone number so the winner(s) can be advised as soon as possible after the draw has been made.
The draw will be made by Bob Champion himself at a prestigious Hotel in Sunninghill, nr. Ascot. Those of us attending the draw (hopefully to include some members of the press) will all then be off to Ascot races as it is their final meeting of this year. There will be no further meetings at Ascot until the course is re opened once the renovations are completed.
The hotel in question is offering a meal for 2 in their restaurant with a bottle of house wine as one of the raffle prizes. They are also offering the room where the draw will take place at a much reduced rate which is being paid for by a local company to ensure that all money possible goes to the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.
PLEASE dig deep everyone, as this is all in aid of a very good cause, which will help publicise Bob Champions Cancer Trust and hopefully raise some much needed funds for their cause.
Thank you again in advance for your continued support.

We are hoping to raise £1000 for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust which, at £2 a raffle ticket, means we have to go some! I am confident we will get there in the end though! B) There is still time to purchase tickets but the draw is 25th September so as soon as you can please.
Many thanks

I am surprised that a very few on this forum has donated anything to the good cause (CANCER RESEARCH), unless they have made a private donation, and dont wont to put it on the thread.
regards.
TERRY.

With great respect Terry, it is a matter between the individual and their conscience what they choose to donate to who and when. As you point out, some may not wish to display this sort of thing on a public forum, while others are more than happy to. Then again others may not wish to donate anything. They may have different priorities.

Someone was selling raffle tickets at Newbury Racecourse for me at the weekend and amongst the horseracing fraternity, Bob Champion is not the most popular person around which made selling tickets a bit difficult. Over £50 worth were sold though so not a complete waste of time.
I have absolutely no problem at all with people wanting to donate or not, its entirely personal choice and I know I do nag a bit about it. I would like to just say a massive thanks to all of those on this forum that have donated. It really is appreciated.
We are trying desperately to hand over a cheque in excess of £1000.00 to Bob Champion's Cancer Trust this Saturday at a Hotel in Ascot, and then we are all off to the races. We look like achieving this amount quite easily. Not only is it good for the charity involved, it has got many people interested and now looking in on Escorial's site (and we will point them over here as well of course), and may even introduce people into racing for the first time due to the prizes being very horseracing orientated. Hopefully a good exercise all round.
I promise to shut up about it now..... :shy:

For anyone interested, we raised £1252.00 for The Bob Champion Cancer Trust. Bob Champion was an absolute star. A thoroughly nice chap. He stayed for about 2 hours at the hotel and then we met up with him again at Ascot races later in the afternoon. There will be photos posted of the day on the forum before not too long.
A full list of the raffle prize winners will be copied onto this site as soon as everyone who was lucky enough to win a prize has been notified.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed on this forum. B)
